Best shocks for 912

Post by roadiesean »

I need to replace the shocks on my 912, I would like to drop it slightly and improve the stance as well. I have thought about Konis or Bilsteins but I'm worried that they'll be too stiff for the lighter 912 than the 911. Am I better sticking with standard Sachs units, or will the Konis or Bilsteins be a dramatic improvement.

I'm not looking to turn it into a track car, just fast road.

Any thoughts guys ??

After much thought and deliberation with people who have used both I put Bilsteins on mine, cannot praise them enough, rides very smooth still but great when pushing on and on track. Cannot recommend them enough

I was told the bilsteins for 911 and koni for 912. Apparently due to the weight difference. Not saying it is true but I went for koni as I like the colour :). The car is not finished yet so no ride report.

Thanks everyone, seems to be a very strong bias towards Bilsteins on 912BBS and early 911, bit of a toss up here though ! How do you find the Konis on yours Ian ??

I guess the advantage of the Konis is their ease of adjustability, the Bilsteins have to be re-valved. That sounds difficult,......any one with experience of this ??

Thanks for your thoughts.

I can't comment specifically on Billys vs Konis but I've just had a full suspension rebuild on my 911E and had new Konis all 'round. Great performance and very easy to set up - a little tweaking and they are exactly how I wanted them. Very happy with them.

I am sure they will both do a great job.

Sean - I've no problem with mine - they've been on the car since 2000 and still look and perform fine.

Just purchased a set for the Alfa too.
