Another 2.4 rebuild question

Post by Tony »

I've had the oil bypass mod done but do I need to change the pump? Existing pump is in good condition and oil pressure (pre rebuild was good)

I was reading this last night in the Dempsey book. You don't need to change the pump, but it's on the recommendation list (along with everything else!).

You do need to change the pressure relief valve pistons and springs if I remember correctly. Otherwise the bypass doesn't work.

The 'By-Pass' modification is said to improve oil pressure at idle but if you don't change the pump it will have little or no effect as the real reason for this mod is to allow use of the later pump which has greater flow.

If you have idle oil pressure issues then cam line oil restrictors work quite well (assuming you don't have centre lube cams) with a standard pump.
