Michelin TBs v Pirelli P7 Corsa ?

About to order new tyres for the car .

Currently running Toyo 205/50/15 on the front on 7" wheels , 225/50/15 on 8" rears .
Looking at either Pirelli P7 Corsa or Michelin TBs .

I've had the TBs on my last car but fancy putting the Pirellis on this time . Anyone running them ?

Also according to Longstone the nearest size TBs aren't suited to an 8 inch rim , they recommend a 270/45/15 is only suited to a 8.5" to 10" width . They offered me 215/55/15 for the front .
The Pirellis are available in 235/45/15 and 285/40/15 , presume the best compound for these is W5 for road use ?

Neither size is ideal for an 8" wide rim but I'm guessing the TB's are nearer ?

Any other suggestions for reasonably period tyre ?

Cost for the Michelins is £1344.00 delivered from Longstones against £1492.00 for the Pirellis from Demon Tweeks .

Maybe too 'tall' (profile) for you but IMO you can't do better than Avon CR6ZZ's - suitable sizes would be 185/70 & 215/60.

Would also suit your pursuit of a less harsh ride ...

Would agree the Avon's have to be the obvious choice for 7 + 8s. Right size and profile plus the grip is tremendous once warmed up. I drove another RS rep back to back with mine (on Goodyear NCTs) and the difference was huge.

If you are looking for a performance biased tyres, they are excellent. Not sure how they compare to the TB or P7 Corsa though.

Let us know what you go for and how you get on. I need new tyres for my car soon so will be interested in your views.

Why you would want to buy Michelin TB's as a road tyre for 7 and 8" rims is completely beyond me.....

You need modern sticky rubber for what you use the car for and as Andy mentions a bit of sidewall won't go amiss in softening up your stiffy.

On my 911 SCR I use TB 18/60 all round on 7J & 8J x 15, work well for road use, or tarmac stage events

Personally I'd stick with the Tokyo proxes - been using them on mine for 10 years now - been great on road and track and a fraction of the prices you're talking about (around 450 a set) - you could put the extra money towards finishing the stripe off

I had Toyo T1-R 205/55 and 225/50 on 15x 7&8 and while they were fine for the road and cooler trackdays, they overheated easily on a hot track.
I tried Kumho V70a next, which solved the heat problems being track-orientated, but felt they had too much grip v the power of my standard SC. I'd like to try the Avons next

What would be the best looking profile TB for the rear 9" on an ST.? Is there a choice or an alternative period looking tyre....?

I ran Pirelli Corsa classics on my 911 with 9" front and 11" rears - have to be very careful on negative camber - mine was set aggressively and scrubbed the inside of the tyres in a few thousand miles. Not sure if I'd use them again.

id stick with the toyos or something similarly modern Russ . Avon's seem to have a tendancy to attract punctures ?
