WTD 73 2.0L gearbox end case

Hi Folks,
A good friend of mine is restoring a 914. He's been on a few DDK outings, but not really a forum guy, hence me posting.
Need a gearbox end casing 914.303.302.00 as below, but without the crack
Brief story - Previous owner's notes mentioned an unresolved oil leak - we found hairline crack, have had this welded/brazed by someone who does motorcycle cases etc. but without success. It appears that maybe at some time there has been an impact on the engine mountings (raised manhole?), as the cast/forged engine crossmember had a bit of a twist, and a mounting bolt was bent. This presumably also stressed the gearbox mountings and possibly caused this fracture. No evidence of impact on motor/gearbox, just bent mounting.

The reason why that existing weld/braize is seeping is becuase of the high magnesium content in the casing. Unless they really know what they're doing it'll be next to useless and will seep oil.

I broke one the ears on the rear casting a few months back



Trying to find an end casing was a PITA and expensive. I ended up taking it to this guy: http://www.ianjemison.co.uk/ whose business is welding magnesium stuff, mainly race/rally wheels that have had chunks taken out of them. I would highly recommend them. They were quick (24hr turnaround) and cheaper than you think. The guy in the business unit next door is also a 914 rally guy (John Sutton) but he doesn't really come on DDK. They'll dig out the existing weld/braize to ensure they weld to clean, I know this as I also tried to weld mine up and made a f**k of a mess, they cleaned it all up, welded it up and now it's all good

Unit11 in Warrington sorted me out with a place in Runcorn that weld Magnesium. They sorted a crack out on my gearbox a year back. If you are stuck, I'll find out details from them of the firm.
