Chain tensioner rebuild kit

I bought a couple of rebuild kits for my mechanical chain tensioners.

The kits I have been supplied look like follows:


Can someone tell me what this rebuild kit is for as the contents don't bare much resemblance to my stripped mechanical chain tensioner?

Just checking I haven't ordered the wrong thing.

It's a long time since I rebuilt any mechanical chain tensioners but, from memory, those parts look about right ...

Hi Andrew,

I did mine recently, and those were the parts I used. The valving is slightly different to the original. I will see if I have still got the bits I took out for comparison.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I now realise most of the rebuild kit is for the parts inside the piston which I didn't see at first.
I was expecting a replacement for the large spring which is clearer absent.

So here is a picture of one of my mechanical tensioners that I was planning on rebuilding.
I bought them with some other parts from someone off eBay and as my car only had hard racing tensioners fitted I thought these would be a good replacement.



Now I have found the exploded diagram within PET it all makes a bit more sense - although I am sure the internals of my piston were the opposite to the PET diagram.

Shout out if anything looks to be missing - is the black o-ring in the kit supposed to be on the thin end of the piston - looks missing on my tensioner?

Hi Andrew,
I think the smaller black O ring goes in the inside of the hole through the aluminium cap (just below piston in your photo) where the thin end of piston passes through. If you look you should see either the O ring or a groove if it is missing. Anybody else verify this?
