3d Electronic ignition

On the older Caterhams I am involved in (old Ford Crossflow) many people have swapped to 3d electronic ingnition where a curve can be mapped and also a sensor placed on the Webber to measure throttle position. It doesn't increase the power but transforms the drive ability of the car. They use Aldon Amethyst or mega jolts. Has anyone tried these on 912 or 356 engines and what kind of results have you had please?

Contact Cliff Murray on the 356 Registry site. He uses the 123 programmable with his big bore engines. I believe that it can take in an air pipe from a carb which can be used to measure load on the engine which I believe is your extra dimension. . You have to check that your carb has on outlet. I think that webers do? I'm going to guess that the set up might be a bit tricky but start with a standard two dimension curve without considering load then when happy add in the next dimension?

Also John Benton does work with crank firing systems but I'm not sure if he considers 3d.

PS I recently tuned my 356. Which is on BR18 dizzy with points and weber 40 idf. I have no complaints about the drivability. What is your current setup. Maybe a rolling road session which have the same result and avoid you have to buy new kit? Peter Baldwin is a good person to contact.

Thanks Neil, I will have a good look at the the sources you suggest. I tend to agree with you about a good set up being the best starting point.
