Solenoid sticking?

912 goes great. Starts every time. Brilliant. Then suddenly won't start. Totally nothing. I think it's the solenoid on the starter motor. Maybe sticking? Has anyone got any suggestions? A mate of mine fiddled and manipulated it and it started fine, but I suspect that if it is indeed sticking, then a non-start will occur again very soon. Is it as simple as replacing the solenoid? The starter motor is new BTW, and I have converted to electronic ignition if that helps a diagnosis. Thanks in advance.

If your starter is new, then so will the solenoid (or end cap) so i would suspect some thing else like bad ignition switch, or bad connection on the starter. You did fit a new connector for the start wire right, look and see if its corroded (disconnect your batter first)

Of course it can be other things, bad gearbox earth strap. It can also be the bush for the starter in the gearbox bell housing. If the starter was old, then the first thing i would do is rebuild the starter with new solenoid end cap, and check replace all of the starter connections, then move on to the ignition switch

i mistyped, in the beginning whnt i meant to say was if your starter is new, then it wont be your solenoid. As a new one comes fitted. Most likely the ignition switch or connections, or indeed a bad main earth cable, etc
