RS Door card template help

Post by sladey »

hi there

I'm shortly going to do the door cards in my car and I'm going for the Rs door card look, and I mean the 73 RS

Two things I'm not sure of

1. I need to know the position of the hole(s) for the long leather strap and I also need to know how it works - is it anchored at one end and connected at the other - if so which one? For the hole location any measurements would be great; a paper template would be even better

2. The door unlock pull - I'm going to remove the IB circular door lock thingy and revert to the push knob to lock/unlock the door - does anyone have pics of an early door with the card off showing this (from memory ai think it will be obvious when ai get the card off but it will be nice to see) also does anyone have (or know where ai can get) the hardware needed - I.e. The rod going up from the locking mechanism and the knob that sits on top

Many thanks for your help

Mark

Mark,

We have a complete set up,

Door Cards, pre-cut in a waterproof material, leather straps, pull handles and jack nuts to secure them to the door, all of the screw cups to secure the cards to the door.

We can cover them in vinyl if wanted or supply them blank. We also have Mylar membranes to fit back over the inside of the door.

These were covered in Brown Hide and I will take photographs of Black Vinyl later today.

Mark - here are a couple of pictures of the door with the trim panels removed from when I was making the RS door cards:

There's a vague chance I might have the card template I used (I've done the conversion on 3 or 4 of my cars in the past) - I used black textured ABS sheet :

Just to check on this - for threading the strap through the door at the rear presumably you'd cut out the rectangular dimple towards the rear of the door? It's a different shape on mine so I'll have to improvise

I think so Mark but it's several years since I last did this - it's not critical though.

Hi Mark
Yup the dimple is basically the right spot...but the hole needs to be bigger...will take door card off mine now and send a pocture...hole has to be wide enough so that the leather doesn't catch on either vertical, edge of the aperture...once you have this then a little experimentation with the placement of the hole in the card should mean the leather pulls in a nice straight line from the pivot point of the lock
