Irritating problem with clutch cable and throttle linkage...

Post by David Rooke »

Another example of a 10 minute tweak that takes most of the afternoon- head scratching and swearing.

I've fitted a new clutch cable to the 912. Unfortuntaely for reasons that escape me the clevis pin that attaches it to the clutch pedal lever now fouls on the throttle linkage (where it leaves the ball joint on the pedal)

The photo in the workshop manual and on line show a good 1cm clearance vertically. My throttle linkage is resting on the clevis of the clutch.

I can't see any throttle link bushings in the tunnel near the gear lever and access hatch by the pedal - should there be bushings?

Does anyone have a good schematic of how the cables / linkages go through the tunnel to the rear? I suspect one or other of the cables is badly routed.

Thanks

hi

not sure about your clutch issue without pics but if memory serves me right there should be 3 x plastic bushes in the tunnel for the throttle shaft to run through
number 13 on this diagram - they're readily available from your local porsche centre or eBay etc... and are pretty cheap

part number 901 423 227 00

think you do one through the inspection hatch, one is accessed by removing handbrake and one via gear stick hole - might be slightly wrong but it only took me half an hour to install all 3. Mine was missing them all too.

Thanks. Are the bushes held in by metal clips attached to the roof of the tunnel?

I had this same issue on my 73T 911 when I changed the clutch cable, those bushes are important and also the cables can 'screw' around each other, but normally their paths are well clear of each other by those buses.
Irritating job iirc.....
