I've got it pretty much ready to drop the engine out now. Just ran out of time. Hopefully have it out in a couple of weeks to inspect it a bit better.

If that's the case then I would be aiming for a strip down and rebuild. You'll probably cause some damage trying to start it

concur, if a cylinder is full of water that wont be good, go strip down.

I did once, get an engine running that was full of water having sat insomes garden for a year - but it was a vw beetle engine going into a camper (not mine) and he only paid £50 for it. It ran for as long as I knew him, but it was a cheap engine. Yours, well completely different
