SpeedsterSOS

Post by Phil Parry »

So, my wife, my friends and my family think I'm insane but of course I do such a good line in investment and pension talk that I have managed to convince them that I'm a genius. Or have I only convinced myself? Time will tell, but meantime I'm having a lot of fun using up the mortgage.

All of which is my way of introducing a new damsel in distress, just arrived on these shores from Texas where those pesky Uhmericans had let her slip and slide into her current state of disrepair. 83103 is a March 1957 speedster, imported to the US by Hoffman, originally white/ivory over red. She was owned by a race team at some point, converted to right hand drive for racing and back to left hand drive, where she'll stay. Originally with coupe seats interestingly, but now with a set of original and rusty speedster seats, which seems fitting. The plan is formulating but I think we'll boost the power a little!

It feels more than a little ostentatious now having 3 356s on the go (well, one on the go and 2 on their knees). My now 16 year old son had leukaemia twice between the ages of 3 and 8 and after he endured 3 transplants, spleen removal, brain haemorrhages, intensive care and somehow survived, we felt we'd all been given and second chance and promised ourselves to get on and live life. That's my excuse anyway. So, we set up a campaign to raise money for the people who saved him. And I swapped my 54 Beetle for what is now my B coupe and the early Porsche sickness just took an ever greater hold!

Hi Phil
Great project and yes life is for living.
My 356 family has swelled since we last met.
Just acquired a couple of RHD 59's.
I don't suppose Ric packed any parts for me into your tub?

Talk soon

Hi Roy
Rather than highjack Phil's thread I have poster some pics in the 'members 356's' area.
Hope to start a separate thread on here soon of their restoration.

Hello folks
I need a pair of speaker bowls from a T1, T2 or T5 for the speedster. Including the holed surround and ideally a couple of inches of metalwork.
Does anyone know of any that need a new home?

83103 looked reasonably good at a distance but had obviously been raced hard. It had bounced from LHD to RHD and back again and the dash had clearly been put together by someone from the porridge school of welding. Blasting revealed the full extent of the work needed. The best bit - a fantastic set of doors.
