Engine lid latch (upper) and engine lid fit

I am trying to get my engine lid to sit down properly but at the moment its too high. The latch "pin" appears to have a screw thread which compresses the spring and in theory would allow the lid to sit down further (and spring up more vigorously!)
Is that correct? I am having trouble turning the screw in the latch and didnt want to force it if I've got the wrong end of teh stick.
It it right that you can adjust the height this way? Also, the rubber stoppers that attach to the inside of the engine lid - these just seem to make the lid sit far too high - am I missing something here?

You need to undo the lock nut, which is a pressed hexagon, before turning the pin

Oddly, just re-adjusted my 73 lid.

Nick is obviously correct to adjust the latch and ensuring it will release.

The two rubber bumpers screw in/out to get the lid to stop rattling.
