Oil Tanks

Hi.
I wanted to ask what do people do when their oil tanks start getting a bit cruddy inside? Fit brand new or is there a way of refurbing?

Ultrasonic bath / cleaning is the only way to get it really clean on the inside. You could try drain cleaner followed by phosphoric acid, but it's a hassle.

Brand new tanks are available but pricey, depends how bad a state your tank is in. Canford Classics had a batch when I spoke with them (last year), also Marek Lappok had some early tanks made up

My engine builder sent mine away for me for what he called an "acid dip." Comes back like a shiny new penny inside and out apparently. I'll just Shutz mine before I reinstall it. I'm not sure what you'd have to do for a factory authentic coating. When I took mine out it looked like it was painted black originally, but it was coming away in big flakes. It did look very sound underneath the flaky paint though.

Thansk chaps. What about the linings on a refurb tank? Didnt Porsche plated them in copper or something?

a couple of coats of epoxy mastic on the outside, before paint/schultz will protect it for a long time after your inner refurb,especially on the very top where water/mud can sit
