JP Group / Dansk panel differences?

I actually asked couple of weeks ago from Eckert if SWB wings they supply are Porsche or Dansk (1965-1968 wings) and prices for them as they were POA, they just sent me prices which were several hundreds € more than LWB versions. IMO very quite high if they are Dansk wings. But of course I can't if they are Dansk or Porsche as they didn't say, not buying from them for sure then.

Guess you will always pay more for the SWB stuff because of the lower volumes involved

we have used both dansk and genuine Porsche front guards/wings,65-68swb will only be Porsche genuine as dansk don't do swb front guards/wings,we have been trying front and rear bumpers from dansk and are a good shape and finish,we did need to adjust the rears bumpers a bit to fit but considering they are about half the price of genuine to us here in new Zealand we were pleased with them,front 69-73 guards/wings from dansk good fit with minimal adjustment,again about half price for us,just fitted also some genuine ones and they still needed a bit of tweeking,we also up to a while back used dansk door skins,i think there tooling must be out on these they were not so good,porche original excellent, even though you have to weld up mirror holes for early cars,i hope some of this may help

Very interesting thread.
I used Dansk door skins in 1988, I was told they were the first produced, but prob a tale.
The fit was dreadful. With those and their out sills, getting everything to align was troublesome and I had to weld 1/8th welding wire to get the wing/door gap close (ish) around by the mirror line on the door.
a few months before this I did a pair of MGB door skins which were a doddle.

I've recently had a poor experience with Dansk panels, Parts-Wise and Dansk themselves which I wanted to share.

I had a rear left wing replaced as we found repaired accident damage which we wanted to set right. A new Dansk panel was purchased at the assurance of Martijn (very helpful) at Parts-Wise that the panel was as good as OE, he even checked with his technical expert.

The panel was welded in and sprayed, then we noticed this...






Basically compared to the 'original' Porsche side the replacement Dansk panel was quite a bit different - it has a different profile almost like it was from the wrong model car. It should really have been picked-up by the body shop but there was also onus on the parts supplier for mis-representing the panel as being as good as OE.

I initially contacted Parts-Wise with my complaint, they in-turn contacted Dansk, this what they initially came back with:
"[the Parts-Wise] ...complaint on this part is the first and they normally advise to do both sides in once."

You are reading that correctly, Dansk advise that you should replace both wings at once. Obviously I was a bit annoyed at receiving this crucial instruction retrospectively, I sent the above photos and asked them to try harder.

They came back with these shots of OE Porsche parts:

Basically in their view all parts are unequal and will not be a 100% match to that on the car - either Porsche or otherwise.

I do sympathise with their response, we've welded it and committed to using it when we probably shouldn't have. In my view the part they supplied isn't just a little off, it's way off. More so than the shots they sent through. I now have to have the side replaced with a decent panel at my expense.

So as a public service message just beware when using these parts, you could get duds and if you do push back before you use them!!

Hi Joel,

I had a conversation with our managing director and showed him te pictures from both Dansk and your body guy.
He asked why Dansks reaction was, so I told him the full story and in his opinion there are several to blame on this mistake.
But we are also one of those, so he would like to give you € 200,- to cover some of the costs that you need to make to fix it.

For the future we will advise our customers in a better way when the would like to but Dansk products or want information about these products.
I really hope that you are able to fix the car in a good way now, like you said "Do it good or don't do it at all"

Yep - it's at Garry's @visualfx (classicFX) so there are few cars there of the same or similar vintage to compare and we've sourced a replacement original panel off a car that reflects the profile of the original 'good' side.
