After a so-so weekend at Shelsley, we went to Donnington to watch the historics.
Brilliant stuff, especially the E Type race.

Got the yellow car and drove around the North Norfolk coast and had a crab at Blakeney

Drove down to Donington Historic (like 911hillclimber - I see you parked next to mine )....First run out since before Christmas after having the bodyshop completely strip the floor inside and out and attend to a couple of small holes that they found (phew..nice and solid, afterall).

Started with a small drama with an almost flat battery first thing....10 mins on charge and fired up.....quick run to the garage to fill 'er up...started again no probs....so me and my lad shot down the M1 bright and early.

New BF Torino seats look the part and will hopefully bed in with use so I can sit a little lower.

Great day at Donington...really super event, brilliant weather, an eclectic mix of cars and great racing ...and at 9 yrs old, my son's really getting in to it now.

Time to leave and the battery didn't have enough juice in to start...quick nip into the PCGB tent to see if anyone's got a booster or jump cables....instead a lovely old boy and a charming German over in his very cool 356 both very kindly offer to push me over to the hill to bump start.....success and a top run home.

Reminds me of the time a few years ago, not long after I'd first bought my 911 when I (embarassingly) stalled in an A Road queue approaching a roundabout...the battery didn't have enough life to start and so I sat waiting for the recovery truck...getting a fair bit of abuse from helpful members of the motoring public commending me on the splendid place I had chosen to breakdown....after 10 minutes of this a Guards Red 3.2 Carrera appeared from nowhere, pulled in behind, helpful chap pops out to enquire if he can help, jump leads appear and we're off! Love this Porsche gang we're all in....mates everywhere!

After a few weekends away finally started to get ready for Spa

Today did:-
oil change
Gearbox oil change
Greased elephant racing bushes (replacing them with superpro is on my list of the future - fed up of greasing and it Never greases properly)

For the last few weeks I've been getting a loud humming from the front at low speeds, which I put down to either wheel bearing or brakes.

So for the first time I replaced front wheel bearings


Only gotcha on this was that I thought I hadn't got the race seated properly when in fact I had - end up taking it out again to check. By then I'd bought a second bearing drift set, and also managed to pop out all of the wheel studs.

Also did discs and pads


One side finished, other side tomorrow and hopefully the lights as well

Did an oil and filter change
Did the tappets
Changed the plugs
Tested it - no leaks - yippee
Must do the points next week

Way overdue I bought a Gunsen easy bleed kit and finally changed the brake fluid...bit of an overflow via the breather pipe initially but then actually really straight forward process.....not too much pressure on the spare tyre used, kept it under 10psi as there was still fluid making its way out of the reservoir bottle cap

Then went for a drive....all good

Installed a new Bosch battery after my recent run of poor starting. Bought 10 litres of Valvoline VR1 and an oil filter for changing tomorrow.

Ha.. ..... TBH, I'm prob'ly going to get the MOT tester to do it whilst he's at it tomorrow oh the shame!

Just thought I'd post this up. Recently finished set of 6x15 period replicas whose design is pretty much like a Deep6 with the rim just a few mm less deep than the originals. At any distance they look like Deep 6s.
You can always get someone to do it for you but nothing beats a DIY hand job.

Several sets of genuine and replica wheels in progress at the moment for the various projects. Lot of effort but it's worth it when you see the results and know you recreated this pieces of automotive art. Best looking wheel ever - timeless.
