Re: LED headlights - now cost effective option.
Sorry to bleat on. I work in the electronics industry and we spend thousands of hours and £££ getting our products through rigorous approvals.
For automotive, this means E marking. I have not seen a single E-marked stop/tail bulb, just a load of non-approved stuff cheaply made in China.
I also cannot find a spec on the light output of any of these bulbs. Show me some data and I might changed my mind...

Just pulled the trigger on the headlights. Anyone know where I can get the clear lenses. I'm not bothered about some unobtainium one-month only RSRSR part - VW will be fine
Cheers

Let us know what you think of them! The treatment of my car for it's ailments is taking a tortuous path. It would be a great road to drive with many twists and turns, but sadly no driving has taken place. So the lights have not yet been fitted. I keep hope for next weekend, as I have the prior 6.

Re: LED headlights - now cost effective option.
I've been pretty happy with the normal lights on my 912 but then maybe I'm setting the bar low because I'm comparing to a 6v 356. However, I've driven it in all conditions and never been worried about lack of lighting..

Please do let us know when approved parts are available. I have been looking, but have never been satisfied with what is available.Jonny Hart wrote:For automotive, this means E marking. I have not seen a single E-marked stop/tail bulb, just a load of non-approved stuff cheaply made in China.

Update- now fitted. This is laughably easy. 15mins for an idiot, 5mins for someone who can distinguish between pozi-drive and Philips head screwdriver.
Not used them at night yet. The light unit and the mounting bracket by RPM are of the highest quality.

I thought you could only run led light if you had a self levelling system also fitted. To stop you dazzling on coming traffic if you are on a bumpy road/ odd camber.
What is the status with these? And would this affect the MoT?
I thought that was the reason they are only fitted to expensive cars?

636 - mine are in the she awaiting fitment.
Yes they are still expensive but safe night-time driving is very important to me as I'm driving it every day
I'm not aware of the self-levelling thing being an issue

Re: LED headlights - now cost effective option.
I vaguely recall the mot was being changed to check xenons were fitted with headlight washers & a leveling system because the original type approval insisted on these being part of the spec. However, then somebody pointed out that certain Evos are fitted with xenons without this kit (as a low volume car thing) so they would not pass an Mot. So the final rules required the the headlight washers and leveling system is working..... If fitted. Which opens the door for modifications.
