Current price for a nice original 1973 T

Post by Tp81 »

Curious of what the market value is for a nice original T, 8 out 10 condition.

Anyone got a feel for the market at the moment.

I haven't looked for a while and I am not aware of recent prices.

This is an opinion only based on browsing and top down. If a good 2.4s is now offered at >200k, a T is something like 80. I recall there are a few examples in specialist trade- that new bsc place for instance. Awaiting other views with interest.

Hi There
I don't seem to see much advertised below £40k for a useable running pre 73 'T' these days...

All the best

This was the reason I was asking.

Lovely looking car, looks to have a great history. I am currently in Potugal, Lisbon is only a 3 hour drive away. Also it worth going for a look.

That car looked very good value to me. Colour change, yes, but mostly original parts. Changed back to olive and it could be a stunning example and rare colour.

Lee Mayor had a light yellow 2.4T recently which looked very original and reasonable at £55k. Mfi car.

Mike

Seems more realistic than £80k being quoted for a T

I have just sold 3 T's and a 3.0 Turbo through James at 4Star Classics who I thoroughly recommend.
The Tangerine 70T was a nice straight original car with running but IMO tired mechanicals that sold for £40k, the yellow 72T also a nice straight car with much less tired mechanicals but still needing in my opinion 5-10k of engine refresh and suspension/bushes etc sold for £45k . James sold a 10/10 perfect Sepia 2.4T for me that was an excellent car to start with (one of the most original that Ive had) that we refreshed all the mechanicals on from front to back but that only sold for £57,500 which I was very disappointed with as I thought it would get 70-80k. The 77 3.0 Turbo sold which was running but again in need of a mechanical refresh, sold at almost asking price of £75k to a Chinese collector.

My opinion is that the people buying S's don't buy T's which are more likely to be bought by people wanting to drive them, the S's buyers have much deeper pockets and different reasons for buying than a T buyer which generates the disparity in pricing. A 2.4S might well sell for over £200k but I don't see that even the best 2.4T will sell for more than 60/65 as the people buying them don't have the resource or inclination to pay more than that. Plus there were thousands of T's produced.

Ridiculous as it seems as they are the virtually same car except the engine I don't think you can base the price of a T on what the last S sold for ............completely different markets
