I was introduced to this forum by Ollieg and Kev914, two 914 owners. (Thanks guy’s)
I have just imported my first 914. A 1974 2.0L from Desert Hot Springs California.

It arrived in Southampton a couple of weeks before Christmas.

The car was laid up about 6 years ago so needs a full recommission. It’s a one owner car from new and the seller passed on the history file. It’s been in a very hot area of California all its life and has very minimal rust. The flip side is that anything rubber is completely shot. It needs a full respray, but hopefully no welding.
I’ve started to strip out the engine bay and so far got 3 hoover bags full of sand out of it! The relay box cover in the engine bay was like a sand castle when I took the lid off, the bloomin sand is everywhere, but slowly I’m getting it all out.
I’ve stripped the tinware off the top of the engine as the cooling flaps and stat are completely missing?
I managed to get a secondhand set with new thermostat from Megabugs, so this weekend I plan to get it fitted.
I’m a veteran VW man having owned 17 beetles everything from a 1949 to 1977, two type 3’s and bay window & splitty bus. from 356, 924, 944's, 928's, 986, 911's, 957 I've had many Porsche I’ve built several VW based kit cars but never owned a 914 until now.
I’m really pleased to join you guy’s on here and hope to share my restoration of the little car.
Regards
Darren
