Hi There,
Does anyone out there have any advice or experience of full flow oil filters for a 356.?
I have a 1962 T6 Super90 [ right hand drive] with the original specification 1600cc engine and would like to convert it to full flow. It is fitted with an electronic rev counter.
I have looked at several conversions and like the idea of running braded oil lines to the n/s inner wing and fitting the filter there. The exposed pipes and filter, would to a certain extent, help dissipate heat, but it would look a bit untidy, whereas the expensive but neat American ''Precision Matters'' filter, which bolts directly onto the oil pump cover, looks more professional.
If anyone has any experience of this conversion, your help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi, welcome to DDK..might be better posting in the 356 or technical section for this specific question.
I did this to my 356C and consider it a no-brainer if you have an electric tacho 356 that is driven as intended.
When I did it a few years ago the precision matters kit was the way to go, which as you know takes the oil in and out via a new oil pump cover..ingenious.
I have a Bursch exhaust which works well on the car, so no room for the cover that has the screw on filter connection all in one piece. So I got the cover that connects to a remote filter console via two lines. It is mounted in my NSR wing, using the bumper mount holes so I didn't have to drill more holes.
Both versions can be fitted with the engine in situ, and it isn't particularly difficult..hardest parts were dremmeling away a portion of metal near the pump drive so that the in/out ports can work (making sure no swarf gets into the system) and for me getting the pump cover oil tight again took a little tweaking.
The PM kit is beautifully made and fits well. I got it plus lines plus cool red and blue Mocal connectors, and a couple of the correct Fram filters, from Andy Prill - ended up being cheaper than importing.
I took off my oil bath filter for neatness and ease of oil changes (you can just short circuit the in feed to the outlet port) but others leave it on, as more oil is better for cooling. I think the lines and remote filter probably compensate for this anyway..Cooling isn't really an issue in North East scotland, but the car only got up to 75% on the gauge even after hard Nordschleiffe laps on a hot Eiffel day..and otherwise the car runs well. Others may confirm that I drive my little car, err, assertively - and it hasn't missed a beat since I fitted the kit.

As Mike says PRS are a very good source of info. You can also do a search on the 356 Registry & 912 forum where this subject has been discussed quite a few times. Lots of happy PM customers.
