I'm presuming nobody realises that you can still buy a brand new lightweight RS prop and clips direct from Porsche for about £35?
It was used on the 964RS and is what I use on my RSR.....

Yes but some alloy, a tent pole and some creativity is so much more fun.....and not the same as everyone else...

Excuse double posting but I ought to update this thread as well as the 'what you did to your Porsche today' thread.
Skeleton hinges installed - I really ought to wash it

Long awaited bonnet straps installed

Nice double straps Mark
What's the deal with the hinges? Normal hinge simply cutout?

One of Jury's "signature" collapsing spring props would be a cool addition.....Like the cut out hinges.

Thanks and yes - I followed the shape of the indent on the normal hinges, but left a few strengthening webs in there
I agree about the spring Darren - still thinking on that

Time for an update I think!
OK so January was the last one. Hard to remember what's gone on since then.
In readiness for the DDK spa historic trip I thought I'd sort out the whine from my front brakes, so I fitted new discs, pads and wheel bearings at the front.
Whine was still there
so I then fitted new discs and pads to the rear. In the process discovered that the rear calipers were shot
whine was still there - this was about a week before the Spa trip - fitted new rear calipers and brakes now whine-free and working well
I also fitted RPM tecnik headlights - I like the look of these but more importantly they are BRIGHT! - very very pleased with these and positively looking forward to next winter

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
Finally after months and months of fannying around I started on the interior - this was to firstly smarten it up (it's not really changed since I bought the car in 1989) , and secondly to try and reduce the interior noise with a bit of soundproofing.
So firstly gut the interior, and look to see how I can get the old glue off (this is part way through)

Answer:- thinners

Once cleaned up it was on with the dynamat

Using the existing carpets as patterns, I cut new ones and edged them using my 62-year old singer sewing machine

The footwell covers were breaking up, so I shaped a bit of metal to fill the gaps and then riveted the broken stuff to it

And a bunch of clothes pegs so saw them covered nicely

Carpets glued in, stage 1 done

And yes I know the upholstery is still shitty - that's stage 3

Re: 1987 3.2 Carrera Backdate project - Sladeys hotrod
So this weekend I started on the rear side panels. First I took them out and dismantled them so I'd have patterns for the new material

Most of it was quite simple, but where the top part joined the bottom part it got a bit fiddly

Here it is from the back

OK so Now I can start with the new material. The colour doesn't show very well in the pics - it looks massively different from one pic to the next. but it's a dark red that matches the stripe down the middle of the car.
When you start to fold it over, the material ruck les up in the middle

But when you pull out the two ends the ruckles disappear

Then it's about joining the top bit on. The card underneath the top bit was pretty knackered so I replaced it with something similar - in the end I went for 3mm MDF.

The two parts join together secretly - basically you fix the material to the bottom of the top piece, then put the two together and staple top to bottom, before finishing the material of the top piece. Even though I bought a new stapler, I found it wouldn't pierce the plastic base. In the end I used my air power nail gun

This leaves a load of spikes sticking out the other side - you just knock them over

Once I'd got it all together I glued and stapled the covering of the top half. Then I noticed that the gap between the two halves wasn't consistent

After thinking about it for a while I thought I couldn't live with it. I reckoned I could sort it out by taking half the nails out, pushing it closer and re-nailing it.
However I didn't think through the process - I started getting the nails out and it suddenly occurred to me to look at the other side

Oh shite.
I stripped the material off the top half and cut a new piece. This time I took a bit more care and finished up with a better gap

Here's the other side fitted

Overall I'm really happy with it. The only thing that didn't work for me is this gap at the bottom

I'm thinking of possibly putting a self-tapping screw into it to hold it in.
At the time of writing I've got the other side finished - I'll be fitting that this week. Then onto the rear parcel shelf, and the rear seat squabs. Then it's down to the front.
