Thanks chaps. Plenty of great advice going on here. The Targa looks reasonable value but i just love the Coupe – for me the shape is so pure and simple. I have had an image etched into my mind for years - it has to be a standard arched coupe in RHD. I love the look of the 72 side oil filler and the idea of that 2.4 engine but if the right car comes along then i will compromise. Not bothered about the pedal position of a RHD car as my back is shot to pieces anyway!
The answer to Mikes question is that i am definitely used to waiting a long time and am willing to pay up for a running car. I am also prepared to restore and get finished to original spec if a non runner – as long as its a RHD coupe. So any condition will be considered but has to be complete.
Something must be out there for me and its nice to know that i can pick your brains when the time comes. I have had no PM’s as yet but I am keeping my fingers crossed. Cheers, Pete.

If it looks as good as it sounds, could be a very good buy, last of the narrow bodies, 2.7 engine, and a galvanised shell. Although I think initially that was only the floor plan, the whole shell was later?

That car is really nice. It looks like a real find with the condition, history and mileage. It ticks all the boxes apart from i have to have a pre impact bumper car.

Hello Chaps, Just to give you an update, I am now the proud owner of a green 72 RHD 2.4E coupe in useable and fairly reasonable condition but this would not have been possible without the generous advice, friendliness and assistance of DDK members.

Firstly I would like to thank Darren (Darren65) who gave me some great general pointers and put me in touch with Steve (left4dead). Steve gave me the chance to look at a few cars that he had heard about – without Steve and his expertise I would be still looking.

Then, came a visit from Mark (Sladey) who really got the neighbours curtains twitching with his beast of an exhaust. Mark inspired me further by showing me how well his car handled and then entrusted me with his extensive 911 book collection of which I am still looking at and gaining knowledge. Cheers Mark.

Also Ian (Ian 2.2S) who on our first meeting kindly dismantled his dash facia panel to show me the finer points of a genuine RHD car. Thanks Ian.

And finally the knowledge and advice from Barry - the Supremo of 911 shell restoration. Barry has put up with me on more than a few occasions over the last few weeks on the ‘phone and on email discussing and sharing photos of the nooks and crannies of the 911’s I had viewed.

Before Barry I never knew what the correct font of a dash stamping serial number or original spot-welding around bulkhead seams. It was also at this point I felt that this 911 interest was becoming an illness and my wife was starting to give me strange looks when studying close up pictures of under-sealed floor pans and torsion bar mounts. She repeatedly commented on my sanity a couple of times!! However the information and advice that Barry has given has been invaluable and this really put confidence in me when inspecting the shell.

So the whole process of looking for a car has gone from a daunting to enjoyable experience and all thanks to the DDK Community.
