Took my 73T/3.2 to SVP in Droitwich today, only 14 miles away so very convenient for a change.

Had the suspension checked which resulted in a full-Monty set-up and corner weighting for 'fast road' as not one corner was the same as it's mate on the other side of the car...
It's been 15 years since bob Watson did it last so a number of hillclimbs and 'adventures' have rolled under the car since.

Drives a treat now with the right 911 feel to the steering.

SVP is manned by race engineers so several hot cars in there, but two rather nice Camans, one in particular, a Cup Car was very fetching....

Can see me with one soon.
Close community this Porsche Indy lot it seems as we chatted. I've found a specialist to substitute for Bob now, so happy.

We also discussed the poorly 3.2 running when hot and all feel it is the cylinder head sensor, so one on order and also a flywheel speed sensor too.

If I'm going to lose my knuckles under there then may as well do both at the same time.

could be a job for sunday, so no swearing, my most useful tool taken away...

Spent several hours achieving nothing the other day. Came back to the car yesterday and fixed it in 30 minutes....

Driver's door lock on 914 now opens from outside as well as inside. No more climbing in from the passenger side

Sunday: Session 1 The Start of the Battle

2 senders to change on my 3.2 engine in my 73T, head temp and flywheel speed.
Tightly packaged access is easy if you are an XFile...

After a small scrap the head sensor is in the head. Me:1 73T:0

Second sender is held in place by a small cap head screw which is welded by corrosion to a light housing. The fact you can readily buy one new for £70 states they BREAK.
Long shank allen key wont budge it, extended by 4" still wont move and it looks like the heat exchanger has to come off to get to it..

Been for a long walk to the village and a coffee, now back for the Big Push to will the battle.

Good job we are not going to SPA in it next thursday.

Finally got the sensors changed and everything back together after sheared screw heads and all that entails but 5 hours later the problem is still there, if not even worse.
The nose of the flywheel sensor was a bit rough compared to a new one, but not a scrap of performance difference.

So, next steps?

Borrow an ecu off a very kind DDK'er and see if that has a cure.
If not, pull the engine out and see what the clutch is doing, do a leak down etc etc test and generally see if there is anything left other than to sell up and buy another 'interest' car that is not a Porsche.

Brassed-off so best leave the car alone for a while.

Spent the morning clearing up the remains of a rear window screen that smashed whilst carrying it last night. Looks like they are hardened glass and not laminated so it 'exploded' into a million pieces which spread themselves over the whole garage. Oh joy of joys.

After wasting three hours not finding things the other day, then finding everything I couldn't find in ten minutes yesterday, I brought home all my boxes of miscellaneous bits and pieces and sorted them into tale away tubs ...bolts, rubber bits, pan head screws, raised head set screws, cheese head screws, nuts, washers, self tappers, shoulder bolts ...and so on. Very satisfying. And I'm finally learning what they're all called, so I feel less of an idiot in the fastenings shop!
