Hello from London

Good evening all.

So at the moment I own a lowly 924. I'm only 23 however and we all have to start somewhere! It is quite an interesting one at least, being a 1977 Series 1 model with the chrome embellishments, light specification and lovely herringbone tweed interior. Interestingly the car was originally purchased from Porsche Mayfair and it was first registered as a company car for Saatchi and Saatchi.




The car has been lightly modified by the previous owner with 16" steel wheels, GAZ coilovers and a receipts for a full engine rebuild.

I'm a serial classic car owner having started out with air cooled Volkswagens at the age of 15. I have owned in excess of 20 classic cars to date including a few BMWs, Mercedes, another 924, the odd old GTI and most recently a 1969 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.

So a few months back I moved to London to start a new job. I'm keen to meet some like minded folk and get stuck in. I'm based in the Queen's Park / Maida Vale area if anyone is nearby?

The long term aim is to work my way into a nice little 912 but I'd settle for a 911 if I had to...

You're based in my old stomping ground although these days I'm lucky enough to drive the roads of North Wiltshire and the Cotswolds. Plenty of London folk around though, a good place to catch up is the monthly meet at The Fairmile, look in the future events section.

To own an early 912/911 is an admirable goal.......the scene always needs fresh enthusiasts, with any luck the market will take a dive soon and give many the opportunity.

I'd love the market to dip a little but I'm not holding old out too much hope. I nearly bought a '66 912 from California a couple of years back but it was at the top end of my budget and didn't feel confident enough to go through with the deal. It was straight and less than £5k... I ended up buying a 1969 Volkswagen Microbus Deluxe from Cali instead as a bit of an import experiment - hated the damned thing but made a good return when I sold it at least.

I'm not all that fussy to be honest - I'd probably settle for one of the unloved '74-'77 2.4 models to get on the ladder.

My first car was an Outlaw styled Beetle with a buzzy warmed over 1300 and lots of handling upgrades. It was bucket loads of fun! Rebuilt this one literally from the ground up. Still have the 912 tachometer.




1984 GTI - still have this one.


The 1969 Microbus I imported / resurrected from a desert scorched shell.


Bought this Mk1 abused and 'slammed' and restored it to its original glory.


And I had a brief flirtation with a Japanese model...
