Amazingly it's taken 30 hours to get the shell ready for paint but then it has been naked for over 13 months now! …..

…..every single inch of the shell has been hand prepared to ensure it's clean, solid and keyed correctly….









…although it's taken some time this is THE most important paint preparation the car will undergo..….the integrity of every layer of paint that goes on after is only as good as the first coat…..

…..two and three quarter hours of solid painting time and 8 litres of quality epoxy primer the shell now looks like this…















…love the handmade look of the RHD peddle box area…



…and the details now look even better…



Rich has done a great job with coverage and all the prior prep work has really paid off…..great to finally have the car properly protected and looking 'as one'



No slowing down now!

A lot depends on how busy the bodyshop gets although hope to have it done in 6-8 weeks.

Most of my other ducks are all lined up.....need to get my suspension/steering/electrics to Gary for refurb.....engine is progressing nicely.....a good chunk of needed parts have been sourced.....just need to visit the Sage of the Lakes, drop off my LSD and discuss gearbox!......

......could be on the road by the end of the summer!

Although next Spring will be just fine!

Picked my shell up post media blasting today ….



Have to say that Cleaning Consultants do an absolutely outstanding job; they may not be the cheapest however the shell comes back totally bare, ripple free and without any primer covering any hidden grisly areas - after all, the integrity of all subsequent paintwork is only as good as the base underneath it!

A shell of two halves - the back is surprisingly good…





….the rear quarters (along with the front wings) were newly replaced prior to the vehicle being taken off the road, these will be unstitched, removed and refitted once all the grot underneath has been sorted…





…the front however has seen better days….



…can you see the joins?…



…the floors are better than expected…



…although the doors look toast! - guess I'm looking for new doors! …



…a 911 in kit form, new OSF inner wing to be joining this lot soon…



…and safely delivered to the Metal Meister; all a bit deja vu…





...and a bit Blue Peter - you start with a rusted old 911, a few scraps of metal and some sticky back plastic….



…and here's one I made earlier….



…a solid 911 shell will follow although with this one there's a few planned twists!

I've used Cleaning Consultants for my two shells; not everybody's favourite on here and quite pricey at £13-£1400 + VAT although on each occasion they produced first class excellent results. Roger Bray uses them all the time.

Enviro-Strip have had a lot of good press here lately, they bake the car then acid dip, Barry commented that they'd done an excellent job with Jamie's shell….however I still can't quite get my head around acid dipping, let alone baking first and am put off by the scare stories you hear of acid breaching good seams and potential longer term issues; maybe unfounded concerns on my part but for me it would be media blasting every time……..one word of warning whichever way you go…..never let a blaster/stripper etch prime the shell afterwards…..I've seen stripped shells that initially look great however primer has hidden a really shoddy job underneath and some potential real problem areas…..with a shell in bare metal you know exactly what you have.
