1. 2.7 barrels & pistons
2. Wider rear wheels
3. RS arches/ rear bumpers
Beyond that they are the same car , even the Ducktail spoiler was optional.
An early RS lightweight is a different beast, but you'd struggle to recreate it exactly down to the thinner gauge panels etc

Thought it may have been - remember some very quick runs in that car in 2000 on the Isle of Man.... Funnily enough I saw Ken last week on my way home. He has a nice little collection now - a 993RS, a 997 GT3RS 3.8 and his wife has a Boxster spyder.964RS_DAB wrote:Yes I believe soIan Gunney wrote:Welcome David

Possibly. I was thinking of S/T specific items like 9"/11" wheels and tyres, high butterflies 100l tank, whereas a 7R cased engine and RS arches + bumpers are more reasonable.IanMcLeod wrote:Not sure these days because you can now by the correct lightweight RS steel panels from Porsche for bonnet, front wings and rear quarters at a significant price which would even up the shell costs between RS and S/T. A correct RS engine is no longer cheap plus I'm thinking stuff like correct RS petrol tank, lightweight glass, seats, etc are all likely to be in the S/T parts price bracket. So at the end of the day I'm not sure there would be a lot of price difference between a proper S/T replica and a proper RS replica.shoestring7 wrote:Am I right in thinking that a 'correct' RS rep would cost less to build than a S/T - assuming you started from the same place?

Very few people ever build a proper replica of either because of cost. Building a mongrel hotrod makes much more sense to just drive and enjoy.
Or as James says if you are going big budget a standard S is probably a better bet.

Yes I'm aware of this car, it looks beautiful and I'm sure it will have been created to perfection. The shell is a work of art.
For me, the engine spec. is too far away from what I'd like an ST replica to be. I've no doubt that the engine will perform very strongly, but I'd prefer something more in keeping with the original spec. From what I understand, building an ST engine with correct crankcases and all the hard to get bits like high butterflies - will be a VERY expensive day out!. Add this to the asking price of the car, and your talking BIG numbers. And.... it's still a backdate. I think I read the shell is from a later c.'76 car?

Shell is 78 from memory - Alan posted about it in response to a Market Place thread on here.

I would agree. It's a back date with a powerful engine. Probably fun and very fast but nothing like an ST should be, more of a hot rod than an ST rep. I would much prefer a proper ST rep, even if it costs.964RS_DAB wrote:Thanks Neilneilbardsley wrote:I know this doesn't exactly match your remit but have you seen this

One of the advantages of building an ST replica over a 2.7RS replica is that you have a lot more flexibility on the final spec of the car since they were available with:
- different body formats (narrow-bodied/flared - plus size/shape of flares)
- different engine sizes
- different induction systems
- different sizes/make of wheels
- different seats/interiors
- different fuel tanks
etc, etc
With an RS your are working to a much more rigid specification.
