If you have really decided to sell, it would be great to see a specification ...

As for value ... a private price is lower than a dealer price, but some people like buying privately.

I personally am very happy with buying privately, but a wodge a (of --- sorry !) great reading is always re-assuring !!

In a similar position myself, any advice on handling the financial transaction for the sort of money early 911s are going for now?

What sort of value does Escrow make sense? Or do it at my bank?

No need for a middle man in this market if it is a good example. Post details on here and man the phone. In the meantime pay top name - you choose - for full inspection and valuation. Offer report to all prospective buyers. And use valuation to price. If more than a couple of interested parties then go to sealed bids.

If you are serious about selling in near future I would move quickish and ride the wave.

Well, after many an hour of agonising over what to do and I have decided to keep the car after all!! (My 6 year old burst into tears when I told her I was selling it - well what can you do??) Anyway I'm very excited about it. I appreciate everyone's input (even if the discussion did go some way off track at times - do you some of you get out at all??!!). Anyway thanks again and I'm now going to get this gorgeous car sorted out properly and enjoy for a while.

Can someone please explain the process of sealed bids. I guess MR A B and C bid say 100, 200, and 300 in their respective envelopes. Does MR C with the 300 automatically get the car, can the seller say no I want 400 to each of them or even can he go to either of A or B and say it's yours for 350 ? How fair is the system to both seller and buyer , how legally binding are the bids ?

LHD? Why not sell in Europe? My Carrera 3.0 was sold in consignment for EUR 2.500 incl 21% VAT. PM me if you want more details.

I am also thinking of selling my 2.2S, the problem is i have no idea of current values, all the adverts i see for 'S' cars have POA after them.
While my car isn't perfect i don't want to sell it only to see someone spend a few thousand on 2 bits of carpets and new door pockets (are they still astronomically expensive?) and sell it on for 20K profit, sorry.
The fact is Mark Waring once told me there were only 34 '1970 C series English spec.RHD 2.2Ss and 44 '71 D series, the British economy being in the toilet as usual, but how many are there left, not molested ('73RS or ST look-alikes)?
Are there any details out there?
Even insurance brokers don't seem to keep up with 'insured value' information.

Please don't lets get tied up in any debate about the differences between price, cost and value.

Check Hagerty online price guides, not a bad starting place. I think there have been enough threads of late about asking and achieved prices for 2.2 but mostly 2.4s which have been between 120 and 169k.

Roger

The figures MW gave you for production numbers are correct.

The only RHD 'S' that I know is currently for sale is with Robert Barrie. The car is mentioned on here and pictures on Robert's site. I believe the car is £95k.

You ask how many are left. I have no definite figures on the 2.2S model but I believe I read somewhere in the past that 8 and 11 cars were know in the two series respectively. Of course two cars were discovered in Scotland in the last few years (well documented on Ddk) so the surviving numbers have crept up a little but I think it would be safe to assume about 20 are know.

Regards
Mike

It's sold, your estimate is far too low but is not my place to disclose more.
