The Porsche Gods (of whom I am now well aquainted) clearly regarded our ambitious stupidity in a positive light and we were safely delivered to Scotland some 10 hours later having avoided the worst of a biblical weekend of wind and rain, without hitches (or most important instruments and warning lights). A celebratory trail braking, tail out moment at the last roundabout of the trip concluded a very memorable day. Even the 5am, 1xx mph Gatso moment on the way to the airport in Johnny's 964 appears to have been forgiven in the persuit of rehoming a slightly neglected orphan.
In the spririt of all good Karmann Konnections, the 912 turned out to be Bootsy's old 912 which has had an interesting history since in his ownership (Thanks for the extra info provided via PM Bootsy).
I've been busy tearing it down, finding some Really Good Bits and some definately Rather Poor Bits in the process. Learning how to weld and stockpiling parts and wisdom from various sources. Engine appears to be rebuilt, big bore and super strong, gearbox less so...
Engine and gearbox are coming out next week for some detailing, oil proofing and gearbox refresh.
The current job sheet done includes:
Repaired fuel sender (new nichrome wire, £3 online, a soldering iron and much patience)
Instruments removed, glass removed, cleaned, bulbs replaced (and recovered from deep inside the tach)
Oil temp guage fixed
Oil pressure warning light re attached
Battery pan stripped, cleaned and sealed
Overspray removed from rear deck lid catch
Nasty Blackpool Illuminations radio removed and hideous speakers now in their second life as swarf and nut collectors
The pending job sheet is longer...
I'll post separately re some bits I'm looking for.
So in summary, Hello. Thanks for a great site. And here's a photo[edit - the photo will follow when I work out how to post one!]. Kinda liking the crazy zorst, but in the spirit of all things being correct, it may have a limited shelf life...
