What's the mechaquartzatron movement about?

Is it acceptable to watch bores or is 964RS currently biting his tongue?
964 C2 Targa. 205 1.6 GTi. Testarossa. Fisher Fury Fireblade. Motorhome. Motorbikes. Scooters. Pushbikes. Threadbare Saucony Peregrines. Dog. Human relations and friends. 97.5%-built house.

Haven't seen the spec of the movement

I'll admit if it's a quartz chrono then it's a no from me although some of the Seiko movements are ok.

I think you will find the watch mechanics are unlike a conventional old watch as it has no balance wheel to regulate it.
It could be that a tuning fork mechanism within the watch is regulated by the quartz crystal. This kind of watch relies on battery power
so it will be more accurate than a conventional movement. But when the battery conks out ---------
It could also be that the watch has no mechanical movement at all and relies on the quartz crystal to operate. and only the
chronograph functions are mechanical giving it a bit of 'hands on' street cred ?
But thinking about it , I suppose the chrono would have to be mechanical to experience the dramatic ' flyback to 12 ' click of a quality chrono.
I suppose a watch could have a soft touch chrono action to the same end - but that would be a bit girly ?

I've just been asked by somebody who purchased an 18k gold Mont Blanc pen in the 60's where might be a suitable place to try sell it. Could anyone recommend me any where around London that could be worth a call?

Thanks in advance

My local retro shop ( they're everywhere now !!) has an Avia Incablock Chronograph . Its a square ish watch with three dials and a stop watch function. It has a Tachymeter bezel. Its plastic faced and is 70's I reckon. It has a Vajoux ? 7730 movement. All works but does need a service, clean and polish. I've looked for an image but can't find one the same. The dial is pale blue, it will need a strap

I can buy it for £245 ..is it worth that ?

Andy

Edit here's a picture of one the same http://acimg.auctivacommerce.com/imgdat ... 272972.jpg

Andy, £245 is ok

You can pick this sort of thing up for less but if it's is good nick and you like it then go for it.

Decent movement, relatively easy to service with good parts availability

I lived in Switzerland for over a year (Davos; Graubünden) and one of my best friends father still has a jewelry store in Klosters. He sometimes gives me offers I can't refuse

Mostly the watches I buy from him are 'second hand': he trades them in when selling a watch and I get a very (and sometimes véry) good price when I take them off his hand

This is my collection:

Early seventies Bell-Matic:
Image
Yes, it's a Japanese watch -I know- but the movement of this watch really is something special; it has and mechanical alarm. That is a neat 'complication'. This watch is in a great state for its age; it even has the original metal strap/bracelet.

Seventies Bull Head Seiko:
Image
Fully serviced and a perfect tikker: keeps time really good; almost better than a official (Swiss) Chronometre. Only the chronograph seconds hand is painted white (should be yellow). I like it though...

My favourite:
Image
This is a limited edition Fortis Pilot Professional. This watch is indistructable and has a very good modified Valjoux (7750) movement.

My daily:

A classic...

And finally this one:

Bought this one because the color scheme fits perfectly with my car
It's better to burn out, than to fade away

Avia are usually regarded as girly watches . Unfortunately the grills very rarely show any interest in old watches
so if and when you want to move it on you might struggle. They are Swiss made , but in their day they were priced
with Rotary and Accurist - sort of token Swiss watches - definately not prime collector watches.
However , as has been said Valjoux do make nice movements and most of the watches value would
be in the movement.

Thanks Richard , I can do a bit of girly and don't think I'd want to sell it. I just liked it . I'm popping in to the shop on saturday to try to improve the deal...
