In the most recent edition of the 356 Registry magazine there's an article by Davis Kriplen about how he, as navigator and driver Chuck Rickert competed in the 1956 Rallye des Alpines. They took delivery of a new blue Carerra at the Stuttgart factory and drove straight down to the start of the rally in Marseilles.

The rally was 2574 miles long, over 32 mountain passes, through France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Austria and Switzerland.

This 20 minute Pathe film is mentioned in the article. Unfortunately there is very little footage of the 356 (13.58 minutes in) but I'm sure anyone who has driven any of the Alpine passes might like to see how things were. Footage of the Stelvio pass also starts around 14 minutes.

Not sure of we've had this Fueltank.tv video on here before.

http://fueltank.tv/portfolio/speed-of-love/

In short, bloke wakes up, gets dressed, forgets socks, drives early 911 around town, collects mate with gold AK and long legs. FIN!
