Historics at Brooklands August 31st

Post by jtparr »

Had a interesting afternoon over at Broolands today, went with my son to the auction as I have never actualy attended one

Lovely E-Types, a late 3.8 convertible in gun metal and red made £90,000, An uber cool low drag coupe also in gunmetal..a no sale at £120K...I think the highest value of the day, a DBS V8 barn find went at £21K, would have liked to be able to take that one home to save for a rainy day.... ....came across a 1965 Buick Riviera Wildcat, which I thought really cool, especially the clam shell headlamps......would have made a bid but absolutely no chance that would go down well at home...

But

And it's the thing that bugged me...oh apart from the really crass descriptions each car was given by the Auctioneers..I guess they have ajob to do but ..please...try and sound knowledgable.....so lacking in detail they might have well as not bothered.....was the shoddy state of the 911's...there were a couple of 70/71 cars that were at least nearly honest looking..a US spec 1970T and a 1971E...but the rest were almost embarrassing......an 85 car badly dressed as a Martini RS...whatever that is meant to be.... a 2.2S amended to 2.4 spec...awfull cheap paint job, clearl evidence of filler to solve problems..had been so cheaply done you could see poor masking lines around the brighwork...just dreadful and clearly trying to pass as a decent car.....a bunch of 3.2's all made up as cheap RS replicas...and a 75 2.7 (not a Carrera) trying to be an RSR...but with a dash from a 3.2...so clearly dubious

Interestingly a day of lowish prices, a buyers day with some almost good value cars

But not a day to promote the quality of the Porsche 911 brand for sure
