New Member in coastal southern Oregon

I am itching for another 911 and live just over the boarder from CA in southern OR and sure would love to see some cars...any events, tours, shows, members around the Brookings area?

Back in my fondest of days, I couldnt get my little yellow 74 911 to go any faster on the autobahns while stationed in Germany. Having blown the brain box of that little car and turned a small profit after mildly restoring her to better condition than when I bought it, my bud (who worked at the Schriesheim Porsche dealer - I think that is where it was...well, maybe it was in Heidesheim? Gosh, too many years ago) advised me to part ways, and fast. That little 2.7 was a ticking time bomb, but I was hooked for good.

My dad found and purchased a 1981 grey market 930 Turbo (3 speed!) with only 27K miles on it from Barry Washburn in Vermont and I had the funnest vacation driving my dad's car. One evening coming back from ME, my gal and I crested a hill after passing a slow moving old man and the radar detector lit up like a Xmas tree...I was over 110...MPH not KPH...and that was it...fortunately the cop just had to laugh at me when I gave him my military ID and he checked out my German gal in the passenger seat saying "Ich hab' dich doch gesagt mal 'runter fahren du...selbst 'drag Schuld..." -- me STILL grinning from what that little car in SECOND gear was capable of doing...needless to say, the cop laughed at me and asked me, "Where did you get this car?" I told him my pops of course and that we were visiting from Germany where I was stationed...he told me to get the f&#$ out of there, slow the f%U@ down and that I wasn't in Germany on the Autobahn..."yes, sir."

Anyway - I have the hots for an early 911. I have my eye on a 68 911L from Beverly Hills Car Club...just under 35K. I haven't a red cent right now...just got my wife a 2006 BMW X3 as we wanted something AWD and good for the dobe...and my little VW is still on lease. I dont think the 911 will happen in the next 2 yrs, but I can dream and think up ways to bring down the price a bit...ie, different 911, different condition.

My hopes are that I get a driver that has a newly rebuilt motor and good interior. Otherwise, i am totally open. My favorites right now are early cars to 73, 3.2s from 87-89, 96-7 targas, and I suppose if I had to settle for late model cars well ok...but I think they are still well over 25K+ and would do an earlier 3.2 or even an SC (which - the SC is the likeliest pick given the lack of funds).

Anyway - comments most welcome...looking forward to that day when I get to turn my key again with my left hand...

regarding teh Beverley Hills car club ... I gather its best to do a bit of research on them / physically checking their cars before buying

Yes welcome

You might want to go the backdating route as a cheaper way into an early car - or at least letting you spread the cost and drive it while gradually backdating it

Thank you all for the responses...begging forgiveness, what is "backdating route?" Do you mean finding a newer car and retro'ing it? finding a car that has been "updated" and putting it back to stock?

Quite a lot of people have done this sort of thing - some to try and get the best of both worlds (more power and comfort, early looks), some because its been a cheaper route into early 911 ownership

The bodyshell is essentially the same from 68 to 89 so much of the early panels fit. Have a read of my thread though - its not a 2 minute job! However as I said in my previous post, you can do the changes a bit at a time allowing you to spread the cost and enjoy the car along the way
