It´s been a while but I haven´t been enjoying dry martinis on some sunny beach, that´s for sure :D

I´ve probably forgot at least half of the things I´ve struggled with for the past month but I´ll give it a try!

I am finsihed with the electrics, fuse box is wired alomg with relays etc. I managed to get hold of functioning OEM relays from another scrap car I have, they look better than the newer ones (hope they work as long as they look) Gauge lighting, turn signals, number plate lighting etc is all in orking condition. WIth some help from a fellow 911/912 friend I also managed to source a perfect, black battery without any logos in the correct dimensions!

I´ve mounted the MC along with new, blue lines leading to a double-output fluid container I sourced from a BMW 2002, it fits perfectly in the original location and looks "stock" from above.

Also cleaned up under the dash and mounted it

I tried to fab brackets fr my drivers seat but ended up too high (Im 189 cm), got tired of wasting my time so I ordered a pair of LWT brackets from John Gausden in NZ. Looking forward to installing them.

Left the last stuff to the blasters

Media blasted fan

I´ve also installed new seals in the rear quarter windows, inner and outer, fit´s nicely.

Also constructed a mount in the parecel shelf for 3 pt harness, pleased with the look of the drivers side!

Image

I left a couple of generators and relays for servicing, picked them up and was really pleased with the results. Nice and clean and no more stopping in the middle of the night in middle of nowhere.. (Please don´t remind my wife)

When I overhauled the heads I found shims on the rocker stands, 1,5mm on boht sides. I assume the previous engine builder had aimed for a higher comp. or tried to solve leaking heads. I installed the rocker stands without shims and the oil channels are "In place" and I managed to set the valvescorrectly. If I have understood it correctly the rocker stands are shimmed to move the rocker stand further out since the pushrods end up beeing too long if the heads have been fly cut.

One soluition is to shorten the push rods, the other to shim the rocker stand?

The engine turns nicely and the geometry looks ok to my, untrained, eye. I will try to consult someone with vast experience in the field before I decide how do do.

(The generator pulley is just hung on, inner outer mixed up)

Kept on doing minor stuff on the engine, dizzy and caps are now fitted properly with the orm rubber buffer fasteners attached to the shroud, using VW Beru lines I ran into a problem, 2 of them are slightly to short with this set up. Well well, will fix new ones.

Image

Original mirrir mounted, will go with a Talbot Berlin asap but I dont have the time to mess around with those finishing touches at the moment :)

Image

New battery, original batterytray and strap fitted. I had a problem with the washer pump, my car is an early one with the washer bag in the right side inner fender. The pump I currently have is stamped -89 and it doesn´t seem to fit properly in it´s bracket. Does anyone know how the pumps differ? IF anyone has an early one for sale, I might be interested!

Still waiting for help with inspecting the engine before I mate it with the chassis, I´ll get there sooner or later!

Looking really good Jesse. How soon do you think before it graces the tarmac? Or dare you not say yet?
I think your meticulous attention to detail is awe inspiring. It take so much time to do things properly doesn't it!

Thanks Deeman!

I´m hoping for a first shakedown in early August. There´s a big 356/912 club meeting 16-18th of August held by the 356-club of Sweden. I am hoping to drive there, celebrare and have a jolly good time with fellow enthusiast´s.

But there´s lots more work to do until then and the final stuff always seems to take huge amounts of time.

Engine and gearbox veru near completion. Valves are adjusted, carbs installed and rest of the engine tin also. Just missing the dimensions for the one rod that gos vertically behind the fan housing. I assume it is not the same dimensions as the carb rods since it has an own part #?

Update: :

Washed and cleaned the fuel vent hoses and installed them, really pleased with the result!

Some more decals :D

Image

Also recieved a repro original type muffler I bought of ebay, eager to do some testing once I get the car running!

Image

Test fitted, will mount the Bursch system for first start up since that is the last set up that worked before restoration.

Image

Waiting for engine bay ducts from Germany at the moment, hoping to have them early next week, engine install next! :D:D:D

Also, just had to share the pic of my mothers newly recieved little fellow, Etta, hoping she´ll be able to take a ride with me once the car is ready!

Thanks again guy´s!

Been working some more on the car over the last couple of days.

Bled the brakes and installed the drive shafts, messy but rewarding job! Also noticed that the ride height didn´t change (for the better/lower) after engine installation (must be the ultra light 616-engine=) So I will have to work that out, the side to side height wasn´t good enough either so I would have had to do it anyway.

Also.... Drove my first test drive 2km or so, topped 100km/h without windshield, just couldn´t resist it! :D

Image

Lots of more work but I´m really stoked at the moment!
