Hello from East London

Post by Peter Pumpkinhead »

Hi DDK

David from London here.

First of all, a seriously big thank you to DDK and all the regulars here for insight, entertainment and general Porsche sustenance over the last three years.

I began looking for a 911 around 2009/10. I soon found DDK, signed up (and lurked), spoke to a couple of regulars and after driving a couple of cars advertised for sale realised I'd be happier buying a project.

It took a while to find a RHD car needing some restoration. DDK really helped me decide what I should look for and who I could turn to for restoration (thank you Alan Drayson and team).

After what has seemed like an unbearable wait, my car's finally home. It's a 1971 E, originally Olive Green then, at some point in the 1980s, red with a whale tail.

Now it's Slate Grey (I know, I know) and, other than the colour change, is as close as I could manage to get it back to factory spec.

Looking forward to using the car as my daily driver now, meeting some like-minded DDKers in East London / the South East and maybe even being able to contribute to the site.

Oh and I'm David, not Peter - I was listening to some very old music when choosing a username.

Hello David,

Firstly, thank you for reminding me of a great band and a great song.

Secondly, your car looks superb and we need to see more photos, please!

Thirdly, are you real skinny because I cannot for the life of me work out how you manage to climb out the driver's door in such a narrow space?!!

Hi Steve - you're right, it is a tight fit. I know opinions on sunroofs are divided, but they're super-handy in a narrow garage...

Hello David,

Did you drive along City Road last night? I think I passed you while I was on my motorbike. I'm also in east London and have a slate grey '65 car. Welcome!

Hi Chet

Yes, that'd have been me. My commute takes me from East London to Clerkenwell and at the moment I'm enjoying taking all kinds of random detours. Be great to see your car sometime.

Thanks for the welcome messages all.

One week into shaking my car down, this was an unscheduled stop in Shoreditch. I was figuring out how to fix a loose gear knob with a crush washer and a fag packet while my Mrs fiddled with her camera.
