Re: 72 Hotrod - my new project
Also the original Targa that Dan bought for the engine is also back on the road. We sourced and fitted a replacement 2.4 motor plus fixed all the faults, so it's time for a cruise.

Quite liking the red....

Starting to look more like a car

As good as the day in 1972 Hans built it:

You've got to love RS arches, oil filler flap, and no ducktail for a hotrod

As you say, starting to look like a car and a very nice one too! I love the look of a bare shell.
Great project.

Re: 72 Hotrod - my new project
paint colour decided
maybe a cliche due to the connection but I dont care, I just think it looks great
subtle but cool, and changes a lot depending on the light
i still think Land Rover Keswick Green would look fantastic but common sense tells me stick to a Porsche colour
off to Porsche Reading's paintshop in the next 2 weeks...cant wait!
good excuse to post some shots even though we all know what Slate Grey looks like...

Re: 72 Hotrod - my new project
not the most interesting photo I've posted. but.
with all the structural stuff done its now off the jig and on the spit for the last fiddly bits of metalwork. like the redundant pedal box holes, etc. for the sake of small incremental spend I've asked Dom to fit strengthening plates and fillets to the suspension mounts in case I run coil overs ... kind of thing it makes sense to do whilst bare metal
bought a refurbed becker mexico on ebay this week...aerial will run round the edge of the windscreen hidden by the seal
off to paintshop middle of next week! half tempted to think I could be driving this by Easter

Easter 2013?
If you have everything else pre-prepped why not?
Looking good, look forward to seeing it in colour.

Looking good Dan,
How many hours are they estimating for the bare metal repaint?

Re: 72 Hotrod - my new project
pre-prepped might be overstating it a tad
but have rebuilt engine and box imminent
new loom
refurbed running gear
new brakes and dampers
refurbed wheels
so really just the re-assembly
paintjob... recall the olive to silver car? Porsche Reading seemingly did a good job
as the only approved paintshop for Carrera GTs i think they will do a good job on this. Many will know Reading is the Porsche UK HQ as well as just a dealership.
quote not exactly nailed down yet (we need to see it, guv) but...ballpark less than I thought! and less than a number of no-name under the arches type places! funny old game

Re: 72 Hotrod - my new project
some good detail work has been going on. If this was an American forum i would post it on a huge thread called "show me your satanic details". As its english lets just call it some neat welding
I was looking at Richard's targa thread last night...beautiful work but funnily enough almost the polar opposite of my approach. Which is to retain all the "early 911-ness" but selectively upgrade weak spots
you only physically connect with a car in 4 places: seat, wheel, pedals and gearknob. For that reason I like the seat nice and low on rocksolid welded in mounts... pedals are OEM, wheel tbc but prob Prototipo. Gearknob Wevo SL
seam welding:

nice view of the strengthened front suspension top mounts:

penetration shot, oh err mrs:

seat mounts:

seat test fit (will be retro-ified trim wise):
