It would be nice to see your front wings a little more 'side-on' in a picture if possible. It would be good to know if they are 67 or 68 wings. Sorry for being so inquisitive but i have a particular interest in 67S models. I'm thinking you have 68 shell rather than a 67 when it was replaced?

Re: Hi From West Sussex, England
Thanks for clarification, Mike. I assumed it was a '67MY as it was advertised as a 1967 911S.... Still want it though.210bhp wrote:The production date of that car is 6/9/1967 making it a 68 MY vehicle.

Re: Hi From West Sussex, England
Hi Mike,
I am not aware and can find no mention, in the Dr Johnson bible, of any change to the chassis up to 1968. He does mention that the wings inner lip tapered from the central top of the wing to the trailing and leading edge to enable 5 1/2"J rims to be used, my car came with 4 1/2" rims
Why do you think the main chassis changed and what are the changes?
I have measured mine (which were imported from the US 20 years ago) and the central measurement is approximately 20.80mm leading edge 21.90mm, trailing edge is 21.40mm. NB These are not the original wings.
The wings that are on the car are not the original wings, I do have them but they are a little cream cracked and are in the loft of the garage, not a good place to go. I will not be going up there for awhile
My wings have no flare on them. They do not bulge outwards see photos.

Re: Hi From West Sussex, England
Sorry Victor, I am not meaning to be critical. I am enthusiastic about your very special car. I have pictures and information on all the rhd 67S's that are in existence because they are so rare and I have one myself. I hope you can understand my interest in the provenance of each one. It may be of value in the future to know the history of them all. DDK has provided the means (where the PCGB failed) to recognise and value the early models and to secure some kind of database for all interested parties to share and develop. Your car is unique by the sound of it, hence my inquisitiveness.
I asked the questions because,
You say the car was first registered in Germany as rhd, unique.
You say the car was reshelled in Germany, unique.
You say the car was Bahama yellow, now tangerine, unique.
You say you have all the original components, pretty unique.
The change over date for MY's was August in each calendar year and you say the replacement shell was supplied September 1967. You say the new shell was always tangerine which is a 68 MY colour. Your car could be made up of some 67 components and some 68 components. Porsche were quite good at using up parts in the cross over months so I was just trying to pin down where your shell in it's current form fits into the Porsche S programme. It makes it a very interesting car.
Hope this explains things better.
I will back off now to let you tell your own story as it unfolds.
Regards
Mike

Re: Hi From West Sussex, England
Victor's car certainly has some 68 features: Dual circuit brakes, no brace for the steering column to the boot floor. I guess when the car was rebuilt it had the latest features built in.

I stand corrected Nick. I see in that format it was a special order colour for 66/67.
I will apologise to Victor and Steve too. I still see the Bondurant car listed as a Sept car so it must be also an unique cross over car from 67 to 68. One of the last?
Regards
Mike

Another 68 feature - aluminium window frames, 67s have chromed brass. Interesting car!

You need to remember this is an American CoA so the production date is 9th June 1967 so a late production MY 67 car.
The text further on clarifies this
"For instance, we discovered that this S was a very late 1967 production (June 9th, 1967). As a result, the car was fitted with ’68 front fenders. We found photos of the car dating back to 1969 and sure enough, it had sugar scoop headlights and side reflectors."

Re: Hi From West Sussex, England
I would imagine the reshell process was pretty simple.
Car is determined as needing a new shell.
Phone up the factory and ask "What have you got?"
Either "We can supply a new shell that we will stamp with your chassis number, what colour would you like it or do you want it unpainted?"
Or "We have a painted shell ready to come down the production that we will supply and stamp with your chassis number, it is in Tangerine do you like that colour?
Or in Gernam to be more realistic (thanks Google translate)
Phone up the factory and ask "Was hast du?"
I can't imagine at the time that anyone gave a thought as to whether it was a 67 or 68 shell or parts supplied.
That really is an interesting car you have Victor.

Re: Hi From West Sussex, England
Hi Ian,
The car chassis number is completely different to a production chassis the number is 134-- the original chassis was 3068--S Porsche have a record that the replacement chassis went in place of the original chassis number. I have confirmation from Porsche.
It would be stunning to know if Porsche have the pick list (bill of materials) for the rebuild?
Nick,
You are correct, it was sent out with dual circuit brakes. When I originally ordered a master cylinder to replace, it came as a single, not a dual as I expected. I sill have a brand new single master cylinder to go. I wanted dual and that is what I have.

Re: Hi From West Sussex, England
Of course that makes sense now I read your earlier post again because the factory used 13xxx chassis numbers to signify replacement bodies. The fact you have this all documented by Porsche is cool.pvmr wrote:Hi Ian,
