Re: 2.2s Targa rebuild
Thank you all for the kind words - I've passed them onto Darren & Rich too - they really are doing a great job on this.
Here's a couple of the wings after digging out a load of stuff in the seams (no rot for the future) & then epoxy primering like the rest of the car - they're looking good too - again remembering the hours of work that Barry put into these to rescue them.

Re: 2.2s Targa rebuild
So - now onto the smoothing of the metalwork. As we've managed to save about 95% of the original metal, we are going to need a little more of a top skim than Darren had on his car to make it smooth. Most of the shell is done now and next week it's onto the doors, lid and bonnet (which will be a bit of a nightmare as it's got so many dings in it...)
However, there's really not very much on here - mostly on the rear wings and its pretty translucent in places. I know Rich is using as little as possible so that he can get the base he needs for the paint.
Shape and line is looking great although Darren says it's hard to capture in photos. The dark primer you can see on the wing edges is where Rich has can sprayed this just to check that the edge looks sharp when in paint, this will be rubbed back prior to the next coat of primer.
Loving the attention going onto the underside - even though it's destined to be encased in stone-chip!

Looks like Movember is alive and well in Swindon....

Re: 2.2s Targa rebuild
Well - I think you will....check out these sneak previews....
Door gaps....oh yes...

Rear quarters....looking lovely (and lots of PITA work gone into shaping these)

In good company

Oh yes and the photo of the photo that was taken as 'quality control' on the new Nokia Lumia 920 with excellent low-light capability

Ohh, that's great news Barry - I heard you were coming up on Monday. The car looks brilliant, it's really showing the quality of your work too....they're in full admiration in the bodyshop of the skill that went into the coachbuilding....Barry wrote:: I'm going to visit Darren (taking your re-shaped front bumper with me Richard), and can't wait to see how she looks in the flesh. Knowing Rich, I'm going to be in for a treat
.
Hoping all's well with you?

OK - I'm going to show some real ignorance here - the significance of the date is......50th birthday celebration where all the porsches in the UK are getting together and it's not even on my radar?hot66 wrote:looking good Rich

I think I'll get the car back from paint in February-ish and suspect it will take another 3-4 months after that....so possibly...but not sure why this might be a deadline to go for...

Re: 2.2s Targa rebuild
So after many, many hours of smoothing, skimming, smoothing again and general all-round care, we are here now....in Hi build primer.
Going to see it tomorrow in the flesh, and am very excited.

This bonnet was a complete nightmare - all the dents and dings. Rich & Darren had to use a lightweight filler to make sure that it would actually lift again - but considering we took several kilos off it in the first place, I think that this is looking great now. Fair play to both Barry for taking the worst out and Rich for smoothing it. Again - it's great that I've been able to save the original, there was easily a case for ditching it, so am very grateful to them both for doing the hard yards on this one.

It's really starting to 'flow' now and looks like a great base for the paint.....

Looking very very nice Rich, it looks like you need to get the spare room sorted shortly.
