Wish I could be there as it's pretty local to me (compared to Castle Combe, Goodwood, Brands etc.).
Enjoy the day - do you think there might be sufficient interest to have a DDK day at a Northern location such as this in the future?

I have got onto this day via Loughborough Car Club. But the event organisers are Javelin motorsport http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk You could see if they still have places for the weekend.
Pop along anyway if you want. Always good to put faces to names. If you can get on as a passenger I may be able to take you round ....

Ian - I think the best bet for a northern trackday is the Specialist Cars of Malton one @ Croft. Porsche only & very well organised with an open pit & smallish number of cars
Tim - Elvington is in the middle of knowwhere really, pretty easy to find, drive around the A64 & come off at teh Hull slip road. Go round the roundabout heading for Hull but as soon as you come off the roundabout you need to turn right for elvington. There is a normal petrol station up the road in elvington, but your best bet would be to fill up with fuel @ York. Unfortunaltly I have never driven on the airfield so can't comment.

Tim - Enjoy the day; whilst I'd be along in a shot I'm in Leamington Spa tomorrow.
James - Thanks for that; what are the Specialist Cars lot like?

I've only dealt with Specialist cars on the servicing side and I found them very helpfull & reasonably priced. They do have an 'old boy' whos been working on Porsches since the 60's / 70's and he knows his stuff. They look after quite a few 73 Rs's & look after Lord Mexboro's collection too. They were also very welcoming when we had a PCGB North east region visit. Surprisingly they don't seem at all 'snobish' & welcome everyone no matter what Porsche you are driving. Their 'reception' girl is quite cute too
I prefer them to Strasse in Leeds.
Their cars for sale are on the expensive side though

I survived !
Great day out, loads of slippy slidy sideways stuff. Fantastic. I must now clean the car.
Elvington is a typical airfield venue, two straights with a link at eack end to make the circuit. Javelin motorsports had laid out some interesting bendy bits in the straight sections to make the venue challenging, but with massive amounts of run off. The transition from the bottom hairpin on to the return back straight went from grippy to slidey ! had 1 enormous moment as the 911 snapped left to right to left etc.... It seemed like forever before I got it back right again.
The other track users were a mix of general track day people in the all sorts for £150 BMW 323i to ricer boy Jap cars. I went with Loughborough car club, basically a Rally club, so was mixing it with rally prrep'd Novas, escort Mk 2's and an MGB. Most impressive of all, and lapping at about the same rate as me was a Suzuki Cappuchino, 600cc Turbo and about half the size of a MX5 !
In summary, Great venue in the wet, I think it would eat tyres in the dry. Well worth a go though
