Buying car history from Porsche

I understand that I can pay Porsche GB £64.62 and get a 'chassis check' done on my car. They'll give me the ordiginal costs, options etc. Has anyone done this? What do you actually get? Is it worth it?

A complete waste of money - unless you must have it to get UK registration for an imported car.

1 sheet of A4 headed paper with very brief (& sometimes incorrect!) & often incomplete specification.

I agree, I got one done (because of registering the car)' Here's what was there:

Confirmed manufactured by Porsche.
Date of manufacture.
Date of sale.
Confirmation of engine number.
Original colour.

And thats that, no details of options, original dealer or original owner.

Jeez. What a rip off! Thanks guys. That's £60 towards the "Becker Radio Fund".

I owe you one.

I'm going to send the DVLA a fiver then write to all the previous owners and see if I can dig anything up that way.

My car came with one and it shows chassis and engine no's, colour, trim colour as well as details of accessories which are all accurate.

It details original selling dealer, month of manufacture and original registration number. It also comments that my car was prepared for the 1971 Motorshow which is worth knowing.

It is worth having, but then I didnt actually buy mine, only you can decide if its worth £60 though.

Hmm. A friend of mine with a 928 got one just by charming the person at Porsche. They faxed it to him for nothing. My car was fairly original when I got it, just the only things that look like they've been added were a modern stereo/cd changer (now gone to make way for the Becker when the fund reaches target), a nearside Durant mirror (useless) and a few hundred weight of iron oxide.

I'll see what the DVLA brings up first. You never know, the first owner might still be knocking about.

Looks like it might be a luck of the drawer job then, unless they only flag up extra's: perhaps because mine is bog standard with black trim there was nothing to get flagged. Either way, quite a lot of cash to take a gamble on .... Prefer the £5 DVLA idea!
