Re: 356 Race Car
quick update: engine is fine, we've blown the diff. That will be spinning the inside wheel in second gear out the hairpins and dropping the clutch doing drag-racing starts away from the pits then! Oops. Box is off to Pete E at Cogbox for a rebuild and LSD this Thursday. Sigh of relief all round. I should probably admit now to having spun the engine to 8,000 rpm a couple of times to stay in front of the MGB... unbelievable these little engines!

Sounds like brilliant fun...
...but deep pockets required brilliant fun!!
Fantastic write up. Good to hear it was 'only' the diff.
Sounds like you need to get the front drums sorted though.

Re: 356 Race Car
thanks guys. Ian has pointed me in the direction of MSTworld who do all the timing for the event - interestingly we were just 0.3 seconds behind an E-Type and just 66 seconds off the B2 class winner. Brakes that work and a throttle pedal that doesn't jam half way through the race and who knows what might have been...!
As an aside the winner of the 1960 Autosport 3 hours was Dickie Stoop in a 356 Carrera, and in '59 it was Jim Clark in a Lotus Elite

Your race reports are absolutely enthralling Steve, and what you and your team are doing is a joy to those of who have never dared go for it! Best of luck for the future and I look forward to standing trackside to see you race some day soon.

Re: 356 Race Car
The car looks stunning however given your reports of door handle to door handle racing I would be very tempted to run a car with not nearly as nice body
