Alright, alright, you just knew I'd rise to the bait on that one quickly.

I'm never shy of an excuse to repost my own shot of when I was there for the Centenary in 2006...

Tell you what though, it's very steep and slippy getting up that hill to get the angle. Thank goodness Lucy was game that day!

Highfield wrote:Mike - engaging and informative as ever, but my daft question is that 0020 appears to have no oil filler flap, whereas you do....so how do we know it is supposed to be black under there as well :-)
Plenty of glimpses of the filler caps in the cinefilm footage I got hold of when I first went in '03:

I'm just disappointed that Mike you haven't gone for the rear tail that's on the 9 car in these clips.
@Andy: Now don't you agree that the tail on #9 really is scrappy quality, but all the more beautiful for it: true prototype development 'in the field' going on with that one. 8)

Gotcha James, knew you wouldn't be able to resist!

Definitely black in those oil filler flap openings so thanks for reminding me of the film, and as for doing the number 9 car and
the tail arrangement..........you just can't get the right type of cardboard anymore!

Interesting to see 0020 on the Porsche Classic stand at Essen, the number 8's had come off and they'd give it an orange roof......
cheers, Mike.

so courtesy of Google Earth (there must be an easier way of doing it) here is the view as you take that famous Targa Florio corner
in Collesano.

First as you approach it you see the bank on the right that James 23heures was talking about, that's where the crowd sat, then
you turn in past those well photographed windows, looks really tight as you double back on yourself through the town and back
out in to the country and onto Campofelice di Roccella.

Just imagine the open megaphones.........

My new project.........

Post by 23e Heure »

Yes that corner is tight tight.
One year Vacarella was leading the race and as he rounded the Collesano hairpin he decided to take a hand off the wheel to wave to his fans up on that banking...
He ran a bit wide, hit the kerb on the outside, and broke his suspension... Out of the race. Oops.
I'll get around to posting some of my in car footage one day.

Did a little more research on the factory race cars and the black to door shuts, came up with the same finish on the 911R:

aahhhhhhh....

finished to read....

one hour and a half....

what a fantastic project, Mike. But you know what i think about it.

I'm very happy to see that "my" 914 internal mirror has been useful for such a car.

A milestone today as I see the front wings and rear arches on together in colour for the first time! You really do see the unusual
shapes and I think it's worked in replicating the original prototype but making them a little prettier and matching a little better.

She's looking good Mike. Is it true Vic Elford is going to give her a run down Hedingham Castle's driveway in September if you can get her ready in time? If not, it should be .....

Mike,

Your photos are pretty awesome - do you have a magic photographic studio somewhere with lots of props and specaial lighting or are you just very, very good with photoshop?

BTW - I truly hope to see your car in the flesh some day, will be a special occasion 8)

Thanks Keith, great idea for Hedingham, which year did you say that was

And Darren, just a question of making do with light in the workshop but then blacking out the background, it started as Bruce at Sportwagen was concerned
what might show up in the background, I thought he meant special projects that might be going on, but I really think he's just worried about the mess

Cheers Dougie, my wife has a very very long list!
cheers, Mike.
