Re: A friendly Forum at last
Thanks guys.
Ian, I am on the `4x4` Land Rover forum
Lightweight, Its a 1972 911 Targa but there is no badge on the boot lid. There is a mark just before the first number but i would not have said it was a number untill you said, i can`just make out a small part of the top of the 9. If i send you the engine number can you also check what model it is, I was told it is a 2.4 `T` engine by a Porsche dealer. The engine number is 6522462. As the leads to the reversing switch are disconnected on the cog box, i think it may have been put in after the body kit was put on. I have a 2.7 fuel injected engine that i intend to put in later, its engine number is 6140545 and would you know its BHP
I have read many different BHP values of the 2.4 T E and S engines. What is the correct values? It was written that it was the cams that gave the 2.4 its different power, is this correct?

Another thing to identify the model. It has a oil filler cap on the right rear wing. I have not seen one of these on the few 911`s i`ve seen

The external oil filler flap on the right side rear wing was unique to the '72 models.
The currently-fitted engine (serial no. 6522462) is a '72 2.4T carb-equipped engine - original power output 130bhp.
The 2.7 engine you have (serial no. 6140545) is a '74 CIS-injection engine - original output 150bhp.
Regarding your car's VIN, these are the relevant format's for '72 Targa models:
911 211 XXXX (US-spec T)
911 221 XXXX (E)
911 231 XXXX (S)
911 251 XXXX (carb-equipped T)
