The only Arrow Blue Carrera 3.0 in Europe?

Post by Sam »

Another modern car from the PS sheds. Stop me if you get bored of the odd nearly new interloper.

A stunning LHD example of the rare and desirable Carrera 3.0 in factory Arrow Blue.

The car was supplied new to Germany and was bought in the early 1980s by a British gentleman living there. He brought it with him when he moved back to the UK in 1984 and has owned it ever since.

It shows 139,000km (87,000 miles) and has purportedly worn the BBS alloys from new.

We thought it best to allow the long-term owner to describe the car and what he knows of its history :

Brief History of my former Porsche 911. (All information given is to the best of my knowledge, recollections and/or what was told to me at the time):

Year of manufacture, 1976

The car was unusual for a German registered Porsche in that it not only had the ‘Black Look’, but also the body colour of arrow blue that at that time, was normally for American export only .

The car was first registered in Munich and is therefore Left Hand Drive. Year of Manufacture was 1976, the first year that the 3 litre engine 911s were produced.

It was fitted with the 15 inch BBS wheels from new with special dispensation from the registration authorities

So far as I am aware (according to the original owners), the car set up was carried out by the factory specifically for slalom racing, hence the low set of the vehicle, skid pan protecting the engine, smaller wheels, etc.

The exterior mirrors as fitted today were fitted by the Munich car artist Walter Maurer (well known for his work on the BMW M1s together with Andy Warhol, etc) at the time that he did some paint work to it after its days as a competition car, presumably to bring it back to the arrow blue/black look. I do not know what mirrors were fitted during the competition days.

I am not sure of exact dates, but the car passed from the original owners to the company IVM Engineering, Munich when approximately 3 or 4 years old. I used it as one of my company cars from that time and it remained in my possession until March 2012.

The car was brought back by me, from Germany in approximately 1984, when I re-located back to the UK

I registered the car in the UK in 1985. I have done very few miles in it since its import into the UK. The low mileage can be verified by the UK MOT certificates.

The car has been serviced by Dage sport, Autofarm and Speedwell.

In 1989/90 the car was stored in one of my factories. Unfortunately, at that time all of the original paperwork and the original emergency wheel air pump were stolen from the car.

At the time I wanted to take the car out of storage I realised that the engine was very, very tight. Rather than damage the engine I decided to have a complete rebuild carried out.

The engine rebuild was carried out by Autofarm sometime around 1992, I do not have the invoice at the moment, but I hope to locate it sometime in the near future.

At the same time Autofarm undertook a complete re-spray that involved almost a complete bare metal preparation.

At the same time the interior was totally re-upholstered in original textiles as used for the original manufacture. This was done at a time when most used 911s were having leather interiors fitted when being re-upholstered.

The last bales of available original textiles were located by Porsche Head Office, at one of their dealers in South America and I had them re-imported into Europe for my use.
