Having not long posted on this thread, and then seeing your reply (at the top of the page), Richard, I did wonder how we'd gone from 'Headliner' to 'Lamb Curry'murph2309 wrote:Or lamb curry

Re: 911 2.2E restoration
I managed to get hold of an old 914 plastic rimmed 380mm steering wheel. I wanted to cover it in leather and after seeing Jonathan Parr’s wheel at classic Le Mans that he coved himself I decided to have a go. Jonathan made a kit up for me and away I went.

The stiching has improved as I have gone along and its definatly not as good as the profesionals but I think it will be just fine.

I did this much at work so I will hopefully finish it next trip.

Re: 911 2.2E restoration
Alan Drayson has sent me some new dash vinyl so today I cut and glued it to the aluminium trim and then I fitted the trim and the glovebox lid.

I also trial fitted the indicator and horn grill, after a little fettling they ended up not looking too bad.

Looking extremely good. Have you used the lightweight 'sport' or touring 'comfort' thread on your steering wheel?

Re: 911 2.2E restoration
Had a productive few days. I have fitted all the heater controls wiring and switches, I needed a new ignition switch as mine fell to bits, thanks to Mike Bainbridge as he provided a good used one. I also trimmed the A pillars and then fitted the dash top. It’s not perfect but its quite presentable, Alan Drayson can now repair the cracks in the top but you need to have the dash in situ so it may well get repaired later.

It was time to test the wiring, I powered up the main loom by connecting it to a 12 volt scalextric power supply, this was because if there was a short the power supply would only flow 10 amps or so, if I connected the battery it could flow 450 amps and do a great deal of damage. I also fitted a multimeter in line to measure the current in case I had got something wrong and it was drawing more current than it should. Anyway all went well and once connected we were flowing 10mA which was fine. I tested as much of the wiring as I could, the washer pump, the wipers the hazard lights the instrument lights some of the gauges the interior lights and the rear number plate lights. all was well.

A bit of a mile stone I think.
Kind Regards
