Harness fitting

Post by JonR »

I'm looking to fit some harnesses to my Chesil speedster kit, and would appreciate some advice.

For the rear (vertical) straps I'm planning to use some captive threads within the chassis, which are intended for rear seat belts. There are 4 near the centre line of the car (probably each spaced about 3" apart) and another two closer to the outsides, at the outside corner of the seat base. Would the position of these be suitable for fitting harnesses, and which would be best to use (basically I don't know where the rear straps of harnesses are best positioned).
I'm using MX5 highback seats if that makes any difference.

Finally what sort of harnesses are best to use, 3 or 4 point ?

Its been a while since I fitted my harness's, but you need to make sure the angle of the harnesses from your shoulder to the floor is correct. It must not be vertical  I think mine are mounted at about 30 deg from horizontal

This is the ideal position

I also found this fitting information on a couple of sites, if it's of use to anyone:
