I'll second Philip's recommendation for the Avon CR6ZZ tyres - don't know if you remember Steve but that's what I suggested when we talked about the Dunlor race tyres.

I have a few sets of Avon CR6ZZ tyres here & I'm fairly sure I have a couple of 175/70 x 15's (for my Alfa). They're expensive tyres so rather than having to buy some with the prospect that they might not be suitable, you're welcome to borrow mine to check the fit if it helps.

Thanks Philip/Andy. That's probably the road I will go down then. the offer is much appreciated Andy - Simon at Longstone Tyres has offered to send me a set on a no sale and return basis if I don't like them so we can fit the car up with the exact tyre quickly which I will probably go with thanks. In the interim I'm going to chuck a set of old tyres on the BRM's tomorrow so we can see whether we have any tyre/wing clearance issues. Thanks again for the offer. Cheers, Steve

Quick update: following the re-modelling of the wire-form, and the binning of all panels but the rear wing.

This poor wing is the un-luckiest panel: I managed to fumble it, and in a comedy, slo-mo stylee (Noooooooo!) it cartwheeled through the air, and landed on the corner of a plastic crate. It had already fallen off the jig before, and then feeling he was missing out, Steve dropped it as well. Anyway, it keeps coming back, and I keep wheeling the various dents out of it.

So, there's now another door skin, with much less shape in it than before, and a generous return at the top to allow for all sorts of window and door frame arrangements. This was a very tricky panel to wheel, and as you'll see from the below pics, we're not there yet. I think can get it O.K. though, and if not, I know at what point this one took a wobble (towards the base, as seen in the refections of the plywood board), so could probably improve on it if doing another one, or at least when it come to doing the other side.

The front wing (this is the third!), has been another difficult one, even going for the wing-in-four, rather than the wing-in two method as detailed above. I did get it to fit the jig quite well in the end, and blend with the doorskin, and be a nice relaxed panel. Nevertheless, it was apparent that the downward sweep of the wingtop (towards the door) was a bit too obvious: from the rear the wing had a bump-like form, rather than flowing smoothly. Therefore I filled in some of the 'swoop' and it's much more refined for it. The irony is that I worked very hard to get the required sweep in (tricky wheeling), only then to have to undo a lot of it.

For all of the trials and tribulations with the embryo front wing assemby, I'm very pleased with it, and there's the beginnings of a flowing shape starting to emerge down the side of the car. Next two panels will be the rear quarter (vent panel), and the front half of the outer portion of the front wing. We'll really start to get an idea of how we're doing then ....

I'm very pleased with the look of the front at the moment. Just been up there earlier but is wasn't a very successful visit one way or another. Called it a day after just a couple of hours, and came home for some research and tool making instead. What should have been a simple panel (front half of front wing) ended up looking a right dog's dinner.

Just goes to show that sometimes the stars just aren't aligned: I'll have another go one evening perhaps. I've certainly already done much harder panels on this car, and this one should be a doddle by comparison. Pretty keen to try to get the driver's side in place (if not welded) before Christmas.
