These showed up...lightweight door handles along with re-keyed barrels.

The barrels and keys (along with the ignition) went missing in the post but eventually showed up yesterday. They fit and work a treat...and are very light

Seriously though I did think about drilling them, but the handles flex quite abit already and didn't fancy weakening them some more...

Whilst waiting for afew important bits to show up, I have started to get on with some more of the finishing details...

Todays job was finishing the door cards...

The new board is mounted to a foam core, I used 2mm laminate flooring underlay and some highly toxic spray glue...





Then wrapped in budget friendly Leatherette...






Mounted and fitted along with the leather door pull release/grab handle combo...

In preparation of starting some wiring I ordered one of those fancy Odyssey PC 680 Batteries. It is remarkable small, though for some reason it is not as light as I thought it would be...having said that it is alot lighter than the standard battery!

I decided to install it in the smugglers box, and after some research fabricated a bracket. Afew choice cuts, bends and some welds later...along with some footwear grade outsole rubber, it fits great and secure.












The new washer bottle also isn't going anywhere

Installed my lightweight popout rear windows...I realise that a piece of glass (plastic) simply glued in would be lighter but I really like the popout feature.

So I used a 'generic' rubber sealing trim mounted to the body flange...



and adapted some DIY shop piano hinges...



I made a template and cut the window from a sheet of 4mm cast acrylic. I added a strip of fablon on the leading edge to hide the hinge area and also a piece of foam seal which seals the gap against the door seal...





Once bolted together the acrylic bends nicely along the top and bottom hinges and forms a nice curve...





I will attach the rear closing hinge once they have returned from being re-chromed...along with the window frames....its been 2 months and counting now

But so far I am pleased with the result

I am working on etching an 'original' style plexiglass logo onto the glass...the artwork is the easy bit. I have a couple of options, thanks to the sample dept at work of how to get it on the glass.

I do so like neatly and cleverly engineered and fabricated 'bits'.

I'd be happy with that battery clamp on my mantlepiece - mind there is a significant other who might have a view on that.

Never understood the obsession with 'lightweight' myself, but still v. much enjoying the thread. You have a very inventive mind where non-routine solutions are required. Impressed, I am...

Thanks for the Logo Andy...I had been working off this image I found on Early s registry...



Its looks like a newer/modern version of your logo. I am guessing yours is from a 904? The logo I found was on an ST (that Olive green one)

Anyway I have some options

1- Laser the logo directly onto the acrylic (the laser cutter at work just about holds the rear screen)
2- Laser a stencil and sand blast the logo on (mixed results so far)
3- Create a window sticker on a clear backer (not that authentic looking)
4- Create a single line water print (similar to airfix stickers but without a backer)
5- CNC a metal stamp which can be heated and pressed into the acrylic

Option 5 is doable but the most pricey, at the moment I think I will go with option 4 and place it on the backside of the glass...will keep you posted.
