Yet more PCGB snobbery!!!

Post by porker914 »

This will probably be of no interest to non 914 owners but possible interest if like me you have a lets put it this way distaste to PGCB.

There is another forum which is dedicated to 914 owners like me and they have been asked to search for likely 914's to be displayed at various Porsche main dealers around the country for the release of the new Porsche sh*tster. Sounds good, you get to have your car displayed at a main dealers and all those photo oportunities sound good. Well it all sounds good until you find out that it is only open to PCGB members!!!

When will Porsche GB open their eyes to the fact that there are many owners (I have 3 914's) that are not members of PCGB.

Moan over have a nice day!!

oh well, their loss ! IMHO :)
Dreaming of driving a pre-A 356, actually commuting in a Cayman and for the weekend, a 911 'thing', with a Carrera 3 engine ( we think).

912uk now you come to say that you are right I never noticed it before.

Now I am questioning the validity of the 914 register becasue if thats only made up from "club " members then I would assume that would only be those being a member of "that" club?

david

does it show that I am having a bad week this week?? !!!!

If its any consolation my 914 is to be displayed at Porsche Cambridge next week for the launch. It will, however, be positively festooned with DDK stickers!

I hate the PCGB too . . . what a bunch of to++ers :wink: .

The registers are all about cars . . . so it shouldn't matter that you're not a member, your car could still be on the register . . . well that's the way I run the early 911 register (and I organised it so that non members cars were at the 911 lauch display).

I don't know why Porsche AG don't won't to recognise other UK club's like DDK . . . but I'd imagine it's down to time and effort.

Oh well at least Porsche are recognising the good old 914 at the Boxster launch.

Phil

PS. I avoid club stickers (apart from my register sticker) . . . too political.

the reason Porsche won't except other car clubs like Tipec and DDK is because we won't allow ourselves to be dictated too or bribed in the same way that the PCGB does.

"Porsche" likes to be in control of things.

i've given up trying to point out to the PCGB that they have approx 16000 members so Porsche should be at the clubs beck and call and not the other way around.

BTW i don't hate the PCGB infact on the whole they are pretty good, unfortunatly it dosn't cater for all its members or even reconise some.
it shuts out anyone who has the courage to be diffrent and therefore has a very aloof snobbish and outdated image.

I have no real problem with PCGB - yes there are some people who know absolutely nothing about their (or other) Porsches, but there are some who are really good enthusiasts.

I don't like the way that the club is geared towards the newer cars (but I guess to some extent that is life) but whilst most people I meet at club events have no idea what a 914 is (let alone one with a six cylinder engine) most at least appear a bit interested.

Both of my cars wear PCGB badges along with the DDK ones (although I think the DDK outlaw badge is fab 8) ).

At the end of the day you need to think what you can do for the club and what the club can do for you - all in all I feel that I get my annual subscriptions worth.

PS I'm not on the board!

1972 914/6 GT replica - 2.7 - signal orange.
1961 Standard 217 Tractor.
2003 Boxster S.
1967 Alfa Giulia Sprint GT Veloce.
