The 'Maverick' Classic Porsche Forum and Classic Porsche Club for Porsche 356, Aircooled Porsche 911, Porsche 912, Porsche 914 & Porsche Replicas. 'We join for the cars but stay for the people'
I sent an email to the Classics at the Castle organisers to ask if us Replica owners would be welcome and if there was anywhere for us to park our cars? This is their reply:
SORRY BUT WE HAVE NO INTEREST IN THESE CARS AT ALL .
The event is substantially sponsored by Porsche AG
and is for Porsches built by Porsche on the Porsche production line or cars with Porsche association as per the typ 64.
We cannot jeopardise this sponsorship by acceding to the presence of pretend Porsches .
You are welcome to attend the event but be aware that
PLASTIC Speedsters /spyders / vw hot-rods will be directed to the distant public car park with ALL post 73 Porsches , VW Golfs , Morris Minors etc.

Well thanks! They might as well have said PARK IT UP YOUR AR*E!!
I don't think I'll bother thanks!

Don't be too disheartened, I'd be exiled as well due to my offensive, post 73 911
Never mind, I can think of a bunch of places where I'd be more welcome
How to alienate and aggravate your customers in one easy, poorly written email... well worth avoiding anything with such a snide attitude. Elitist tossers...
It's just the sh*t attitude that comes across in the email more that anything. Also they say its for pre 1973 Porkers but then say they are welcoming back this:
"The following cars will be making their 2nd appearance at the event:
Ex Herbert Muller / Gijs Van Lennep – 1974 LE MANS 2nd place
1974 FACTORY Martini PORSCHE 911 2.1 TURBO CARRERA RSR"
i can understand it if porsche said "if you have any replicas, modded cars or post '73 cars at the show we're withdrawing sponsorship", but i HIGHLY doubt they would give a s**t.. That makes me think its just the organisers being elitist, especially when they're publicising the exciting post '73 cars that are going to be on display anyway!
If it was my show and porsche had laid-down some rule about what could be shown, I'd just create a special post 73 and replica's parking lot right next to the main show - the more "porsches" the better; they all draw the crowds and raise awareness of the marque.. ..or perhaps I've got a too simplistic view of things?

Hi,
Thanks for your email inquiring about our upcoming event.
We'd love to see you at the "Classics at the Castle" and you are welcome to bring along your speedster replica. Unforunately, we will be directing you towards the normal public car park rather than the VIP area reserved for pre-73 factory porsches. We have taken the difficult decision to be quite firm with this policy as any deviation is just is a starting point for endless debates over what is acceptable and what is not. With the passionate owners involved this can often become an unpleasant situation that can spoil the great atmosphere of this event for all concerned.
I do hope you can be sympathetic to our situation and the decision we have come to.
We look forward to you visiting the show.
Kind regards,
Hedingham Organisation
Fixed! (not that I agree with their position though)
haha, brilliant!!
Amazing what a bit of decorum and sense can do!
I read last years thread on it too, seems like some people need to put their handbags away and realise we all love the same brand of car and anything associated with it. Even if we 'just drive an old VW'.
