All I want to suggest is that you perhaps consider the feature of opening doors.

Maybe one on either side for that WOW factor. ;)

yes, trust me getting into the thing to roll it down the road must have been hilarious to watch. I did the "climb in holding onto roof, dukes of hazard drop swiftly in" style. In reality it was probably more akin to a giraffe getting into a letterbox. I think doors are part of the package aren't they Barry? :?

I don't think you are far off with what you have at the rear, but if I might make a suggestion.....

To my eye it might be worth just tweaking the shape of the rear panels 'perimiter' wire as it's quite square in relation to the rest of the forms which are gentle curves. I think if you soften the edges of the rear by puting a wee bit of crown or 'bow' into the vertical sides of the panel. (maybe only adding 1/2" or so in the middle) This will keep the crisp edge of the perimiter line which is a nice strong feature, but make the rear and the wings work together a wee bit better.

Alternatively, try tweaking it by bringing the lower end of the vertical edge in towards the centre slightly, again just to follow the outer edge of the panels beyond?

At the moment there is just a bit of a jarring between curved panels and straight edges.

might not be the ultimate answer, but quick and easy to try, and that's half the battle!

still, you are at the stage of gilding the lilly, so it's not bad! top job.

I'd also be interested to see what effect a clever person using photoshop could achieve by disguising the newsprint as it may quite simply be that confusing the eye and the actual lines might be ok?

I was taught (by an ex Porsche stylist no less) that eyes are lazy, so give them as little to do as possible - no double curvatures in a single line and no excess decoration as these stop the eye 'flowing' easily over the form. An arty way of saying 'keep it simple'

(If anything I'd say the current shape of the side vent is bit more distracting, but I'm sure you have your own plans for shapes you like, so I'll not be so rude as to suggest anything! :) )

one other option may be adding vents / cutouts into the rear panel between the lights and the number plate, or even mounting the plate onto a large mesh panel?

This might add a functional detail to the rear end which could work nicely?

Also..... (said he who didn't want to criticise  )

perhaps larger rear lights might help? it might be that they are a little 'lost' in the panel, or the round is clashing with the adjacent straight edges?

That said, I love round taillights - must be a Ban the bonb / cortina / TVR / Howmet thing!

All very good points, and the issue around the paper is certainly going to be valid. When you think, if this was a prototype car out on test, we would almost certainly be using a similar technique (i.e. wierd patterns) to make sure people couldn't see the shape.

I'm sure also that the pictures are showing it slightly worse than it really is (I do hope so). I was looking back through this thread and can't believe that the rear end as shown below is the same one as shown above (and it is, the only difference is the viewing angles and the paper:

if it only looks slightly worse than it really is, there is really nothing to worry about, 'cause it really doesn't look bad to me.

typical designer - it looks fine, but he can't resist wee suggesting changes!

Ahh no, it looks slightly worse than it is, which means it looks awful from the back in the pictures, but in actual fact it just looks fairly awful from the back in reality  .

have you ever seen the arse end of a Lister Jag? there is a car where the designer (Cavendish Morton, as it happens) clearly started at the front and lost interest as the job progressed! the rear is an amorphous blob of nothingness, with no discernable shape to the form.

shame they were so fast, as it meant lots of people were behind them looking at it!

weirdly, the Costin version is even worse, but he could at least claim it was aerodynamic blandness!

Oh well, I think we're closer than we were back only nine months or so ago:

Don't be shy!
Where's the rear view ?

Looks bloody good to me from the 3/4 front but will need to ride a bit higher for road use?

not bad progress for 9 months on something so complex imho.

Graham. :)

Graham, surprisingly the front ride height is spot on, there's no rub on the front wings even at full lock. we have a small problem on the inside of the wheel arch, but that was there before we started. At the rear, we've got to come down about two inches to get the car level. Of course with bodywork and me in it, there is the possibility it will need to come up slightly, but that's the beauty of adjusters front and rear :)

Thanks for posting the old photo Barry, I'd forgotten how far we've come!

I think it's a combination of the 'inset' area of the rear panel being too large & the rear tail lamps not being quite right - they need to 'protrude'.

Possibly rounding the ends of the 'lip' of the Kamm tail may hep too - maybe something like this:

Thanks Andy: funnily enough I'd just concluded that the flat part of the kamm was too small  .

I think, as you and Bruce have said, rounding the kamm won't hurt at all, and there's a few other ideas now to try as well.

I'm going up there for a liitle while this evening for a ponder, and I know Steve's hoping to review things at some point over the weekend as well. Hopefully by next weekend we'll have come up with a plan of some sort.

BTW, forgive my ignorance: what's the above car? Any side views?

Barry - it's a Ferrari 250 GT Lusso 'Competizione'.

I don't have a side view of that particular car but here are a couple of shots of other 'Competiziones' :
