The mfi pump, such an important part to have set up correctly, has come back from a total rebuild in Germany. It's an 010 pump
converted supposedly to RSR spec in the US a few years ago. Fred the pump man here in the UK tested it and said it gave the
highest ever readings at high rev's he had ever seen, which is what you want for an RSR. Problem was when we put it on the
engine dyno to test the fueling curve it was all over the place and no amount of adjusting could seem to sort it out.
Bosch's official service agents in Nurnberg have all the ex factory parts to rebuild and set up the pumps according to your engine
set up, in my case they have used an original factory RSR spec space cam actually set with the fueling profile for high butterflies.
To go with that you have to fit the correct arm that runs on the cam, again a specific piece for the RSR, so at least it now has the
right internals as far as the cam is concerned.

The red oil filler knob on the top is just a dummy, we did consider having it as a sealed unit like the original RSR with it's own oil
supply, but the German experts warned us against doing that, saying the normal pumps internals won't stand up to a non-
circulatory system.
When the pump came back they enclosed the old parts taken off, and you can see how the space cam had been modified to give
the massive fueling at the top end. The normal smooth fueling profile abruptly comes to an end where someone has taken some
kind of dremel tool to it and dug out a crater for the arm to fall into! So yes, loads of fuel delivered but no control over it in the
right places.

What is the number engraved on the space cam?
It should be about 3 o'clock on the surface around from the 'contact' area (looking from the front).

It's also interesting to note the various finishes used on the refurbished pump - especially the gold 'Hammerite-type' finish - as I bought a complete 2.4S mfi system some years ago which had identical finish/plastic blanking plugs, etc on the pump.
I was told it had just been rebuilt by Bosch in Germany but there was no paperwork to substantiate this - nice to know that it was probably true.

The guys at Koller & Schwemmer (Mr Sattelberger) are very well known here for their outstanding work. We have had my 010 pump also converted to 2.8RSR specs after discussing my engine configuration. I am running bored 44mm Bosch throttle bodies widening to 50mm at the intake trumpets - their suggestion was spot on.
Best,
Christian

Hi Mike, it's 44, supposed to be the holy grail of space cams from the 6.3 Merc.210bhp wrote:Mike What is the number engraved on the space cam?
Don't know if it actually is but not much use to anyone now!
Modified is putting it kindly, I think the technical engineering term is 'mullered'Lightweight_911 wrote:Can't believe how crudely that space cam had been 'modified' !!

It was the guys from Koller running the Bosch stand at Essen, so I went up and asked if Hermann Sattelberger was there at the show.atelier14 wrote:The guys at Koller & Schwemmer (Mr Sattelberger) are very well known here for their outstanding work.
The young guy looked shocked, glanced around to see if we could be overheard and replied in very hushed and reverential tones,
"Oh no, Herr Sattelberger would NEVER leave his workshop!"
cheers, Mike.

Five minutes later on the same stand, whispered into a mobile phone....
"Herr Sattelberger, it's Franz here"
" --Yes, he turned up"
"--Yes I know, it's amazing isn't it - these Englanders are crazy"
"--Don't worry - I fed him the old line about you not coming out of the workshop - I think I calmed him down"
"--Yes well I was worried too but I have asked security to follow him round the exhibition - you should see the strange looking fellows he is with! You can't be too careful with these Englanders"
"-- NO, Herr Sattelberger I think it's too soon to come out now - you stay in the toilet for the time being - after all you never know - he might come back - he had a wild look in his eyes and strange hair"
"-- Yes I will keep you informed, Herr Sattelberger"
"-- OK well I'll send someone in with some peanuts in a minute"

Thanks Mike. What is the number on the space cam in your newly rebuilt pump? i.e. Do you start with a 44 stamped cam to get to RSR spec or is your new cam a different starting point?Mike wrote:Hi Mike, it's 44, supposed to be the holy grail of space cams from the 6.3 Merc.210bhp wrote:Mike What is the number engraved on the space cam?
